Sun City Hilton Head, located in Bluffton, SC, is part of Troon, a global leader in golf and community management. We are seeking a driven individual to oversee all aspects of Golf Operations at our multi-course private residential community.

About the role

The Director of Golf oversees all golf operations at Sun City Hilton Head, including activities and relationships between residents, associates, and the community board. This position ensures maximum resident satisfaction and financial performance across all three courses.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and monitors the annual budget, revenue goals, and expenses for the golf operations department across all three courses.
  • Provides timely and accurate reporting of all financial and non-financial information as directed or required by Troon Golf management, the community General Manager, or the community board.
  • Monitors monthly and other financial reports/statements on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis and takes corrective action when necessary.
  • Develops, maintains, and administers sound organizational plans and initiates improvements as needed.
  • Maintains membership with the PGA and other professional associations; attends workshops and meetings to stay current with industry developments.
  • Oversees the care, maintenance, and agronomic condition of all golf facilities’ physical assets, collaborating with Golf Maintenance Operations and Agronomy leadership.
  • Coordinates marketing and membership programs to promote the community’s golf services to residents.
  • Implements policies and procedures for the Golf and Maintenance Departments, ensuring compliance with company standards.
  • Manages hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions for associates; addresses complaints and resolves problems.
  • Oversees department members, including the Head Professional, Tournament Coordinator, Golf Services Manager, Superintendent(s), and Retail Manager.
  • Ensures effective orientation and training for new associates; develops ongoing training programs and provides leadership to prepare staff for career advancement.
  • Creates a member service-oriented atmosphere that promotes the game of golf and meets resident needs across all three courses.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of course rotation and tee time arrangement in a multi-course operation.
  • Conducts weekly staff meetings and maintains regular attendance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) or four to six years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing golf operations across multiple courses, such as Sun City Hilton Head’s three-course operation.
  • Class A member of the PGA of America or LPGA in good standing.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated financial and operational management skills.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Golf Management/Operations program preferred.
  • Experience across diverse golf course operations (private, resort, and/or semi-private), with private residential community experience strongly preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the golf retail industry.
  • Polished and professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience communicating with resident boards and community leadership.
  • Demonstrated passion for member and guest service, exceeding expectations.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, tee time reservation systems, POS, retail inventory management, and familiarity with web-based golf partners.

Skills

  • Ability to read and speak English to perform job duties (e.g., communicating with English-speaking customers or co-workers; equipment manuals are in English).
  • Thorough understanding of course rotation and tee time arrangement across multiple courses.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and experience with computerized POS and tee time systems.

  • Regularly stands, walks, and sits; uses hands; reaches with hands and arms; talks and hears.
  • Frequently tastes or smells.
  • Occasionally climbs or balances; stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
  • Occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

  • Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally works in wet or humid conditions (non-weather).
  • Moderate noise level.

Pay

$150,000 - $160,000 annually, based on experience.
