About the role

The Director of Food & Beverage is responsible for leading all food and beverage operations at Residence Inn Berkeley, ensuring exceptional guest experiences while driving revenue, controlling costs, and maintaining brand standards. This role oversees all aspects of food and beverage, including Study Hall rooftop restaurant, banquets and catering, complimentary breakfast, evening social offerings, and the full culinary team. The position fosters a high-performing, service-driven team while ensuring operational excellence across all outlets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Leadership
    • Oversee daily food & beverage operations, including Study Hall rooftop restaurant, banquets and catering, complimentary breakfast, evening socials, and market/retail offerings
    • Ensure compliance with Marriott brand standards and local health & safety regulations
    • Maintain high levels of cleanliness, food quality, and presentation
  • Team Management
    • Recruit, train, coach, and develop F&B team members and supervisors, including culinary staff
    • Create schedules based on forecasted business levels
    • Foster a positive culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and guest satisfaction
  • Guest Experience
    • Ensure all guests receive prompt, friendly, and professional service
    • Respond to guest feedback and resolve concerns quickly and effectively
    • Continuously enhance offerings to align with guest preferences and brand expectations
  • Financial Performance
    • Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, and cost controls
    • Monitor food and labor costs to ensure profitability
    • Identify opportunities to drive additional revenue (retail items, premium offerings, partnerships)
  • Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure adherence to food safety, sanitation, and alcohol service regulations
    • Conduct regular inspections and audits
    • Maintain required certifications and training for staff
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by management to support the overall success of the hotel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of Food & Beverage leadership experience, ideally in hotels
  • Strong knowledge of Marriott F&B standards (preferred)
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, labor, and inventory
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Pay

$120,000-$130,000
