About the role

The Director of Food & Beverage will lead the transformation of the food and beverage operations at Southern Hills Country Club, closing the gap between the world-class golf experience and the current food and beverage experience. The role will focus on elevating every touchpoint, service, ambiance, cuisine, and hospitality to a comparable standard of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly assess the existing talent and close the gap between the Club's world-class golf experience and its food and beverage experience by elevating every touchpoint.
  • Maintain a highly visible, engaged presence across every area of the operation, cultivating a caring and trusted rapport with members while building strong relationships at all levels of the team.
  • Establish and reinforce clear expectations throughout the food and beverage operation, driving the consistency, alignment, and accountability that define an 'insanely great' service culture.
  • Recruit, develop, and coach a talented food and beverage team, evaluating and strengthening training programs so that every team member is well-prepared, confident, and fully aligned with the Club’s service standards.
  • Actively monitor member services with particular emphasis on à la carte excellence, engaging with members regularly and ensuring timely, thoughtful follow-up on feedback, concerns, and suggestions.
  • Bring creative thinking to the way Southern Hills serves its membership, introducing fresh ideas, experiences, and programming that distinguish the Club’s dining and social environment.
  • Partner closely with the Executive Chef to align front- and back-of-house operations through communication, training, and team development, delivering a seamless and consistent member experience.
  • Develop and manage profit and loss statements for Club events and food and beverage operations, maintaining disciplined expense control and labor management without compromising the quality of the member experience.
  • Serve as a true partner to the General Manager/Chief Operating Officer and the Department Head team, contributing to strategic Club initiatives and supporting the execution and oversight of current and future capital projects.
  • Leverage the six-year runway leading up to the 2032 PGA Championship to establish a best-in-class food and beverage experience and prepare the team to play a principal role in the successful execution of the Championship.

Requirements

  • A proven track record of turning around deteriorating or underperforming food and beverage operations and delivering immediate, sustainable gains within multi-outlet club, resort, or high-end luxury hospitality environments.
  • Demonstrated success recruiting, attracting, onboarding, training, developing, and coaching food and beverage talent — ideally with a proven ability to build a talent pipeline from the local market — along with a commitment to evaluating and strengthening training programs so every team member is well-prepared, confident, and aligned with the Club’s service standards.
  • A passion for high-touch hospitality and exceptional Member service, with the drive to elevate every touchpoint — service, ambiance, cuisine, and hospitality — to a world-class standard comparable to the Club’s renowned golf experience.
  • A highly visible, engaged leadership style, paired with the executive presence, emotional intelligence, and self-awareness to cultivate caring, trusted rapport with Members and strong relationships at every level of the team.
  • The ability to establish and reinforce clear expectations across the operation, driving the consistency, alignment, and accountability that define an 'insanely great' service culture.
  • A strong focus on à la carte excellence and member services, engaging with Members regularly and ensuring timely, thoughtful follow-up on feedback, concerns, and suggestions.
  • A creative, forward-thinking approach to member programming, introducing fresh ideas, experiences, and offerings that distinguish the Club’s dining and social environment.
  • A collaborative leader who partners effectively with the Executive Chef to align front- and back-of-house operations, and who serves as a true partner to the General Manager/COO and Department Head team on strategic Club initiatives and current and future capital projects.
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including the ability to develop and manage profit and loss statements for Club events and food and beverage operations, with disciplined expense control and labor management that never compromises the quality of the Member experience.
  • Exceptional advanced planning, attention to detail, time management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to organize and complete work in accordance with established timelines.
  • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of executives, managers, team members, and Members.
