About the role
We are seeking an experienced Director of Fleet Maintenance to lead fleet maintenance operations across multiple locations in Rockland and Orange County, NY. This is a senior leadership role responsible for maximizing fleet reliability, availability, safety, and overall performance at Interstate Waste Services (IWS), a leading provider of solid waste, recycling, and environmental services throughout the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut markets.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support fleet maintenance operations across multiple locations.
- Develop and execute strategies to improve fleet reliability, availability, and performance.
- Oversee maintenance managers, teams, PM programs, work scheduling, and daily operations.
- Monitor key maintenance metrics and drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage fleet maintenance budgets while controlling costs and total cost of ownership.
- Oversee parts inventory, vendors, suppliers, warranties, and outside services.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, ANSI, environmental, and company safety requirements.
- Partner with Operations, Finance, Safety, and other leaders to improve productivity and service delivery.
- Manage and develop maintenance personnel, including experience working with unionized labor.
- Lead asset planning, fuel conservation, vehicle safety, and contingency planning initiatives.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of related fleet maintenance experience with a high school diploma; or 5+ years with a Bachelor’s degree.
- Strong experience with heavy-duty truck maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
- Proven leadership experience managing fleet maintenance teams and operations.
- Experience managing unionized employees.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance, including DOT and OSHA.
- Demonstrated experience with maintenance budgets, financial controls, vendors, parts, and warranty programs.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fleet maintenance software.
- Self-starter with a process-oriented approach and strong team-building skills.
