About the role
The Director of Finance & Accounting provides financial leadership for A Faith That Does Justice (AFTDJ). This role focuses on oversight, financial reporting, compliance, and strategic guidance rather than day-to-day transaction processing.
Responsibilities
- Oversee accuracy and integrity of financial records
- Review monthly reconciliations and financial statements
- Prepare and present quarterly financial reports to the Board
- Lead annual budgeting process
- Ensure compliance with IRS and Massachusetts requirements (Form 990, Form PC)
- Oversee audit or financial review process
- Maintain cash flow and financial sustainability
- Advise Executive Director and leadership team on financial matters
Requirements
- Experience in finance, accounting, or financial management
- Familiarity with nonprofit financial practices preferred
- Ability to interpret financial statements and communicate insights
- Comfort working with tools such as QuickBooks and Excel
Qualifications
- Strategic thinker who can translate numbers into insights
- Detail-oriented but not overly focused on transaction-level work
- Comfortable operating in a volunteer-driven environment
Skills
