Develop departmental plans—including business, production, and organizational priorities—guided by organization functional business plans. Impact department results by supporting and funding projects, services, and technologies, while navigating decisions based on resource availability and organizational objectives.
- Operational Oversight & Team Leadership: Provide leadership to managers and professional staff, acting as accountable leader for the performance and results of multiple related teams across the 6 production sites. Provide indirect leadership and mentorship to EHS leads, ensuring consistency in safety standards and reporting. Allocate resources effectively to align with business objectives and the annual plan.
- Cross-Level Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Serve as the primary EHS liaison across the entire organization. Utilize strong interpersonal skills to persuade managers and leaders to take action, and negotiate with external partners, vendors, and customers. You must be equally effective at presenting risk profiles to Senior Leadership/Executives as you are at building trust and engagement with hourly employees on the front lines.

Champion holistic worker health initiatives that expand beyond traditional physical hazards to encompass industrial hygiene, fatigue management, and employee wellness. Evaluate and direct the annual employee health screening program. Oversee near-hit/accident/injury investigations and support the Human Resources team in evaluating workers compensation cases.
- Environmental Permitting: Direct and oversee all environmental permitting processes at both the State and Federal levels (e.g., Title V Air, Mining, NPDES Water, and land reclamation permits).
- Regulatory Oversight: Maintain complete compliance with all regulatory bodies, including MSHA, OSHA, and EPA, as well as relevant state and local requirements. Proactively manage the evolving regulatory landscape by engaging with industry peers, trade associations, and regulatory agencies (Federal, State, and Local). Foster and maintain strong working relationships with these agencies. Assist site personnel with agency inspections including MSHA, OSHA, and CalOSHA, and other HS related regulating agencies and meet associated reporting deadlines in a timely manner. Review and guide external reporting and communications with these regulatory agencies.
- Industrial Hygiene: Manage Industrial Hygiene Program and supervise one direct employee and multiple indirect employees to monitor and improve IH across the company.
- Community Engagement: Establish a routine engagement plan with key stakeholders in surrounding communities to foster strong neighborly relationships. Effectively manage and resolve community complaints, and develop sustainable programs to ensure responsible stewardship.
- Corporate Security: Working closely with the Global Head of Physical Security to implement security strategy, policies, and standards for the physical safety of all employees, customers, and visitors to the organization’s facilities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Required minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience in an industrial environment. Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in Mining (MSHA) and/or Manufacturing (OSHA).
