Director of Engineering & Technical Services

Award-winning PBS Member Station Mountain Lake PBS, based in Plattsburgh, NY, seeks a Director of Engineering & Technical Services. The role involves managing technical operations and driving innovation within a community that offers a blend of small-town living and easy access to world-class culture, entertainment, and outdoor adventures. Located between the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain, the station serves a cross-border region close to Montreal, Lake Placid, and Burlington.

About the role

The Director of Engineering & Technical Services will oversee the technical infrastructure and ensure smooth operation of all broadcasting systems. They will also be responsible for fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the department.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the technical operations of the station, including broadcast equipment, IT systems, and network infrastructure.
• Develop and implement strategies to enhance technical capabilities and support station programming.
• Manage staff and contractors to ensure efficient and effective execution of tasks.
• Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration of technical services with overall station operations.
• Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements to maintain and improve station standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in broadcast engineering, technical management, or a similar field.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor a team, develop technical solutions, and manage projects effectively.
• Strong understanding of broadcast technologies, including digital media, streaming platforms, and cloud computing.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.

Qualifications

• Experience with broadcast automation systems, content management software, and video/audio production tools.
• Knowledge of FCC regulations and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
