Our client, a long-established and highly profitable custom equipment manufacturer, is seeking a Director of Engineering to own mechanical engineering standards, system design execution, and cross-functional technical operations. This leader will oversee all engineering activity from design through fabrication, installation, and field performance. The role serves as the technical authority across mechanical systems, ensuring consistent design standards, accurate documentation, and strong alignment between engineering, manufacturing, and field service. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on improving system performance, strengthening engineering processes, and driving continuous improvement through real-world field feedback. Director of Engineering Responsibilities
- Own mechanical engineering standards for spiral systems and conveyors
- Lead design reviews (CDRs), approvals, and project completion reviews (PCRs)
- Approve system designs, BOMs, customer orders, and engineered configurations
- Serve as technical lead for key vendors and fabrication partners
- Support field troubleshooting and system optimization as needed
- Capture field feedback and drive design/process improvements
- Own engineering-to-operations handoff (Sales → Engineering → Production)
- Maintain engineering tools, BOM standards, and Excel-based design systems
- Oversee engineering documentation, manuals, and design change control
- Ensure accuracy across BOMs, packing lists, and system specs
- Capture field feedback and drive design/process improvements
- Support Sales with technical applications and system quoting tools
- Improve quality from design through fabrication and installation
- Oversee Controls Engineering team and system integration
Director of Engineering Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field required
- 5+ years of engineering leadership in custom equipment or ETO manufacturing required
- Strong mechanical systems background (conveyors, material handling, automation equipment) required
- Experience with fabrication, assembly, and field installation required
