About the role
We're seeking an experienced Engineering Director to lead the Growth and Patient Portal teams, set standards for QA and Product Support across all application teams, and drive consistent quality and velocity across the entire org. The role requires hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, and AWS, as well as a strong track record of delivering business value with low defect rates and high reliability.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the success of the Growth and Patient Portal teams—ensuring they have the right people, processes, and timelines, and holding them accountable to delivering company value with a low defect rate and high reliability
- Own the QA and Product Support functions across all application teams, setting standards and building processes that hold quality high
- Lead through your managers—coaching, training, and developing the next generation of engineering leaders and senior ICs
- Set and enforce a high technical quality bar across your teams, and stay close enough to the code to drive resolution of technical problems that span team boundaries
- Identify and resolve issues of unclear ownership and cross-team dependencies, and close documentation and process gaps across the broader engineering org
- Partner with product, design, and clinical teams to keep the patient experience seamless from first touch through their ongoing care
- Work alongside other Engineering Directors to drive consistent quality and velocity across the entire org
- Build a positive, thriving culture across your teams that strengthens our org-wide engineering culture
Requirements
- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- 4+ years of engineering management experience, including experience managing managers or leading multiple teams
- A strong, current technical background—you can still get hands-on and are credible with your senior engineers on architecture and code
- Hands-on experience with React, TypeScript (bonus: Next.js), and AWS
- Enthusiasm for AI-assisted development and experience adopting tools like Claude Code across teams
- A track record of overseeing teams that consistently deliver business value with low defect rates and high reliability
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and the ability to scale your impact through delegation, written communication, and clear expectations
- Comfort with hard conversations—proactive about accountability and holding teams to a high performance bar
- Experience owning or partnering closely with QA and/or Product Support functions (bonus)
- Experience working in a HIPAA-compliant environment (bonus)
