About the role
The Chief Engineer leads the Engineering Operations of a Premier Oceanfront Resort, overseeing all aspects of the hotel's building systems and facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all engineering operations for the resort.
- Oversee maintenance and operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, water treatment, and life safety systems.
- Ensure all building systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs to protect hotel assets and minimize downtime.
- Conduct routine inspections and identify opportunities for repairs, upgrades, and capital improvements.
- Develop, manage, and monitor departmental budgets.
- Control expenses and maximize operational efficiencies.
- Participate in capital planning, renovation projects, and vendor management.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and compliance documentation.
- Recruit, train, coach, and develop engineering team members.
- Create staff schedules and manage payroll processes.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and support.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support exceptional guest experiences through prompt resolution of maintenance-related concerns.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety protocols, Lockout/Tag-out procedures, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling standards.
- Respond to emergencies and provide leadership during critical incidents.
Qualifications
- Engineering degree or equivalent combination of technical education, trade school training, certifications, and relevant experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive engineering leadership experience in hospitality, resorts, hotels, or a comparable industry.
- Valid certifications and licenses required by state and federal regulations, including HVAC certifications where applicable.
- Strong knowledge of building automation systems, energy management systems, and preventive maintenance software.
Preferred Skills
- Proven experience managing departmental budgets and capital projects.
- Advanced understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train and mentor a diverse workforce.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds independently and assist with heavier loads when needed.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and service ramps.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking throughout the property.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions and respond to emergency situations as required.
