Director of Disability Resources and Learning Support

Summary of Duties

The Director of Disability Resources and Learning Support provides institutional leadership for disability access and accommodations within the medical education program. Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing accommodation processes for medical students.
  • Advising institutional leaders on disability-related policy matters.
  • Partnering with faculty, administrators, campus, and clinical partners to promote equitable access across classroom, laboratory, simulation, assessment, and clinical learning environments.
  • Contributing to strategic planning, faculty development, policy formation, and continuous quality improvement related to access, inclusion, and learner support in academic medicine.
  • Providing leadership and administrative oversight for learning support initiatives within the Student Learning Center (SLC), including peer tutoring, academic support services, learning workshops, and specialized learning support programming.

This is a 12-month, full-time, fixed-term career track faculty position (subtrack determined at time of hire) in the Department of Medical Education and Clinical Sciences or another appropriate department within the college. The academic rank will be Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, commensurate with qualifications. The position is an initial one-year contract, subject to annual extension based on satisfactory performance and mutual consent.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications for All Candidates

  • Master’s or terminal degree in law, counseling, rehabilitation, psychology, education, public health, medicine, or other relevant field.
  • Eligibility for faculty appointment within a department in the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.
  • Familiarity with medical school technical standards, clinical training environments, simulation-based education, and testing accommodations.
  • Experience managing sensitive, complex, and confidential accommodation cases.
  • Excellent consultation, communication, and relationship-management skills.
  • Commitment to fostering access and opportunity in the academic environment.
  • On-site presence on WSU Spokane Health Sciences campus.

Required Qualifications for Associate Rank

  • Current or previous appointment at the Associate rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship, and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for associate rank.

Required Qualifications for Full Professor Rank

  • Current or previous appointment at the full professor rank or equivalent at a post-secondary institution; OR experience determined to be equivalent.
  • Record of accomplishments applicable to the sub-track in teaching, research, clinical, scholarship, and/or service activities commensurate with school, college, and university standards for full professor rank.

Preferred Qualifications for All Candidates

  • Record of teaching, faculty development, committee leadership, or scholarship relevant to the role.
  • Experience with accessibility strategy, systems improvement, or program leadership.
  • Experience supervising professional or student support staff and administering academic support or learning assistance programs in higher education or health professions education settings.

Pay

  • Assistant Rank:
    • Terminal degree: $135,000–$150,000
    • Master’s/Equivalent: $115,000–$140,000
  • Associate Rank:
    • Terminal degree: $150,000–$163,349
    • Master’s/Equivalent: $126,000–$154,000
  • Full Professor Rank:
    • Terminal degree: $163,350–$194,000
    • Master’s/Equivalent: $138,600–$169,400
