Director of Development, Regional Development (FUNDRAISER 4)

About the role

The Director of Development is responsible for leading major gift fundraising efforts, managing a portfolio of donors capable of giving $50K or more, and working in key metropolitan regions outside of California. This role involves strategic solicitation and stewardship of donor relationships, utilizing various communication methods, and traveling to secure meetings with donors and prospects.

Responsibilities

• Major Gift Fundraising: Conduct comprehensive fundraising campaigns, build and manage an active portfolio, and secure significant philanthropic gifts from donors capable of giving $50K or more.
• Fundraising Planning and Program Responsibility: Develop and implement strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, close, and steward major gifts, ensuring alignment with program priorities.
• Regional Focus: Work in assigned key metropolitan regions, leveraging advanced fundraising techniques and strategies to support UC Davis fundraising programs.
• Donor Stewardship: Engage in various communication methods to maintain and enhance donor relationships, including in-person meetings, video calls, texts, phone calls, social media, and virtual visits.
• Collaborative Approach: Collaborate with colleagues, volunteers, and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals, maintaining good working relationships at all organizational levels.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Advanced professional fundraising experience, including major gifts, prospect portfolio management, and successful track record in major gift fundraising.
• Knowledge of development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship.
• Expertise in major gifts, including knowledge of estate and planned giving vehicles, and the various types of charitable gifts, including in-kind gifts, gifts of securities, and gifts of real property.
• Experience with the design, execution, and follow-through of strategies to identify, qualify, cultivate, close, and steward major gifts of $50K or more.
• Previous experience managing a regionally based development portfolio.
• Volunteer management experience, including recruiting, developing, training, and empowering active, philanthropically-focused volunteer boards.
• Experience with Advance database a plus.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of training and experience, 3 or more years of professional or volunteer fundraising experience, and significant experience in major gifts, prospect portfolio management, and successful track record in major gift fundraising.
• Highly knowledgeable of and experienced with development and fundraising techniques, including prospect identification research, evaluation of historic gift data, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship.
• Demonstrated success soliciting and securing significant philanthropic gifts, developing strategic relationships with donors, and possessing expert political acumen to establish and maintain good working relationships at all organizational levels and with outside constituencies.
• Related experience conceiving, writing, and editing fundraising presentations, case statements, and proposals for support of program priorities.
• Expert written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

Pay

$118,000 - $125,000/yr., commensurate with experience.

Schedule

M-F 8am-5pm.
