Director of Development, Alpha - $400,000/year USD
The Role
Families who select Alpha Miami rely on trusted advisors in every area of their lives—this is the relationship they haven't yet formed. You will serve as their primary point of contact when uncertainty arises, when instincts signal concern, or when they wish to share a milestone they know you will appreciate. Your understanding of each family will run deep enough to foresee their needs ahead of time—and you will bring the judgment and poise necessary to respond with discretion, care, and apparent ease. Over time, your role will extend beyond the school itself. You will become woven into how they navigate this stage of their family's journey.
About the Role
Miami's private school ecosystem is tightly knit, deeply networked, and intolerant of errors. How a family experiences Alpha does not remain contained—it circulates through the channels that influence perception: the residential tower, the private club, the marina, the fundraising circuit, the WhatsApp threads that determine where the next family enrolls. You will recognize this reality intuitively, because your career has been spent in environments where reputation is the sole form of capital and one miscalculation endures longer than any success.
Responsibilities
- Shape the cultural environment of the school community—the voice, rituals, and implicit standards that foster belonging—so Alpha becomes a place families take pride in, not merely an institution they selected
- Oversee the parent relationship from beginning to end—from initial inquiry through enrollment, ongoing engagement, and sustained advocacy—so faculty remain concentrated on students and families always have a reliable contact
- Recognize when something is amiss, and address it with the tact and sound judgment that preserves trust—including the more difficult determination of when a family is not aligned with the school
- Maintain visibility where families are present: morning arrival, afternoon dismissal, evening gatherings, and the impromptu exchanges that carry the most weight
- Foster a community that both domestic and international families feel invested in protecting—and where advocacy emerges organically because the experience warrants it
- Communicate Alpha's narrative persuasively—in individual meetings, at hosted events, and in the circles of discerning, internationally oriented families where the school's standing is truly established
Requirements
- 5+ years building and sustaining trust with high-net-worth or ultra-high-net-worth families in a relationship-intensive, high-touch capacity
- Demonstrated success guiding discerning clients through consequential decisions—with measurable outcomes you can reference: conversion rates, retention figures, referral volume
- The discretion and composure required to navigate sensitive, confidential matters without visible disruption
- Proven experience managing and developing personnel—mentoring, upholding rigorous standards, and executing difficult staffing decisions—not solely managing client relationships or accounts
- Instinctive cross-cultural competence across internationally mobile and long-established Miami families
- AI-forward orientation—you engage with AI tools fluently, understand their strengths and limitations, and proactively introduce superior solutions, even if you are not engineering them yourself
- Located in Miami, available full-time on-site, and adaptable to variable working hours
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without need for sponsorship
Nice-to-Have Requirements
- Background as a head of school, principal, superintendent, or equivalent educational leadership position
- Professional command of Spanish or Portuguese
- Personal or professional exposure to independent or alternative education models
- Pre-existing connections within Miami's private school parent communities
- Experience working with internationally mobile, Latin American, or globally networked families
- An established network across the neighborhoods, social clubs, and institutions where Alpha's families reside and make decisions
