About Spoiler Alert

Spoiler Alert is a CPG and retail tech company dedicated to expanding consumer access to affordable, everyday essentials by leveraging surplus inventory. We have successfully sold over $6 billion worth of inventory from leading CPG brands such as Unilever, Kraft Heinz, and Mondelez into hundreds of value channel retailers and wholesalers, thereby recovering value for brands, reducing waste, and offering savings to consumers.

Opportunity

The next phase of Spoiler Alert's growth hinges on how effectively we utilize our marketplace data to enhance supplier and buyer experiences, driving platform value and analytics that compound with each transaction. This role requires a hands-on, cross-functional leader with experience in CPG and retail data, capable of building data teams that deliver tangible business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Drive differentiation and platform value by partnering with the VP of Product on data strategy, ensuring it aligns with supplier and buyer needs, and enhancing customer-facing analytics.
  • Equip Operations with the necessary data and insights to advise customers on optimal liquidation strategies.
  • Identify and develop the commercial value of our data, including new products and premium offerings that suppliers and buyers will find valuable.
  • Use your expertise in CPG and retail data to shape product opportunities and customer-facing intelligence that suppliers and buyers will act upon.
  • Evaluate strategic data partnerships and technical investments that accelerate our roadmap, collaborating with other CPG and retail tech companies.
  • Define and maintain marketplace liquidity metrics that drive decisions across Operations, Product, GTM, Senior Leadership, and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure data is accessible and actionable for internal decision-making and execution, fostering a culture of data-driven excellence.
  • Partner across the leadership team to prioritize problems, solve technical challenges, improve customer outcomes, and drive revenue growth.
  • Contribute to external thought leadership through publishing aggregated insights and category analyses, and participating in webinars and speaking engagements.
  • Build and lead a team of data analysts, fostering a culture of ownership, analytical rigor, and business impact.

Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of experience in analytics or data science, with 3+ years leading data teams, preferably in a high-growth B2B SaaS, marketplace, or data products company.
  • Direct experience with CPG and retail data, including metrics suppliers and buyers use, and how data moves and gets utilized between manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.
  • Experience in category management, pricing optimization, demand planning, applied AI/ML, supply chain management, and auction theory.
  • A track record of shipping customer-facing data products that drive measurable customer and business value, beyond just dashboards.
  • Commercial acumen for identifying where data creates business value, including new products, premium offerings, or partnerships.
  • Hands-on comfort with SQL and the modern data stack, able to work closely with the team and serve as a credible partner to Engineering.
  • Expertise in coaching and collaborating with data team members across the stack, from database technologies, semantic modeling languages, and data visualization tools to Python, pandas, Jupyter notebooks, and AI/ML tools.
  • A power user of AI with a forward-thinking perspective on its impact in retail and CPG, including insight into emerging trends and technologies.
  • A proven ability to hire and develop strong analysts, fostering a culture of ownership, analytical rigor, and business impact.
  • Cross-functional credibility with Product, Engineering, GTM, and senior leadership, bringing clarity to complex situations and driving informed decisions.
  • A bias for action and the ability to communicate data clearly to various stakeholders.

Benefits

Spoiler Alert offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a remote-first environment, competitive salary and stock options, subsidized healthcare, dental, and vision insurance, climate-focused retirement plans, generous paid time off, and more. The salary range for this role is $160,000 - $190,000, determined by experience and expertise, not a negotiation range. We are committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace, free from discrimination and offering a variety of employee benefits and perks.
