About the role

The Director of Culture and Community is a full-time, year-round, Senior Administrative position reporting directly to the Head of School. The major responsibility of the position is to work at the intersection of our constituents (students, employees, and parents) to promote a culture of belonging, inclusion, and well-being.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of School, Associate Head of School, and other school leaders in cultivating and stewarding an engaged and inclusive community culture for all school constituents.
  • Serve as chief spokesperson to the community on issues pertaining to Episcopal identity and the inclusive community elements of our mission.
  • Supervise, evaluate and direct the work of the Assistant Director of Belonging, Chaplains, and Directors of Service Learning.
  • Manage department’s operating budget, specifically related to programs that promote community and constituent engagement.
  • Partner with other Directors and key administrators to help community members fully experience an authentic sense of belonging and support.
  • Partner with the Director of Human Resources to help identify and attract mission aligned employees; onboard and orient new employees; and provide ongoing support to employees through the Fun Squad and similarly directed employee community building initiatives.
  • Partner with the Communication team to evaluate School communications, including the website and other collateral to ensure they accurately reflect our vibrant and diverse community and the programming therein.
  • Lead the School’s Care and Response Committee and promote a healthy culture within our parent constituency.
  • Serve as the point person for pastoral care for and within our community.
  • Partner with the School chaplains to utilize daily chapel as a vehicle for promoting community cohesion and well-being – including giving homilies throughout the year.
  • Attend daily chapel, with willingness to lead on occasion or back-up when needed.
  • Lead the Belonging Council and oversee the School’s efforts to promote inclusion and belonging by helping to coordinate, align, and inform the efforts of the various people and programs who form the Council.
  • Establish a cross-divisional presence through periodic involvement in the life of all divisions and attendance at major school events and functions in each division.
  • Coordinate and support programming and events related to belonging and inclusion.

Qualifications

  • An advanced degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a field focused on belonging and caring for a large community.
  • Working in an educational environment, with preference for experience in independent or Episcopal schools.
