Director of Creative Arts & Recreation Therapy (Clinical Rehabilitation Manager 2 SR33)-Oregon State Hospital

About the role

The Oregon State Hospital (OSH), a division of the Oregon Health Authority, seeks a Director of Creative Arts and Recreation Therapy (C.A.R.T.). This position is based in Salem with occasional visits to the Junction City campus. The primary purpose is to provide clinical supervision and oversight to approximately 29 full-time employees, including licensed and certified Art Therapists, Music Therapists, and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with staff to establish and maintain C.A.R.T. services that align with OSH's mission and vision, policies, department guidelines, regulatory standards, and clinical standards of practice.
• Develop monitoring systems to ensure accountability with relevant certification and licensing boards' standards and practices.
• Collaborate with clinical program managers to provide clinical leadership, supervision, program development, and problem-solving in group meetings, individually, and as requested.
• Supervise clinical practice of C.A.R.T. licensees and/or licensees to promote continued knowledge of legislative, political, social, cultural, societal, and reimbursement issues affecting clients and the practice of C.A.R.T.
• Participate in Treatment Services leadership team to plan, implement, and evaluate C.A.R.T. programs, policies, and standards.
• Disseminate appropriate leadership team information to subordinate staff.
• Staff development: recruit qualified candidates, participate in the selection process, provide regular feedback, and assess performance.
• Support attendance at OSH and outside training opportunities that support staff learning and training needs.
• Ensure that all staff assigned to be supervised have received orientation and are able to demonstrate basic skills, knowledge, and competencies related to their assigned positions.
• Engage in clinical treatment as needed during practice and evaluation of staff performance.

Requirements

• Six years of experience in supervision, staff-technical, or professional-level work related to rehabilitation therapies or related fields.
• Two years of this experience must have included supervision and management of a program, section, or unit which included: a) development of program rules and policies, b) development of long- and short-range goals and plans, c) program evaluation, and d) budget preparation.
• One of the following master’s degrees in Art Therapy AND certification with the Art Therapy Certification Board (ATR-BC) AND Oregon Art Therapy license OR Master’s degree in Music Therapy AND Certification with the Certification Board for Music Therapists (MT-BC) AND current Oregon Music Therapy license OR Master’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation AND certification with National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (CTRS) AND Qualified Mental Health Practitioner (QMHP).

SkillsKnowledge of standards and regulations related to active treatment that include the Joint Commission standards, Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations, and Oregon Administrative Regulations as applicable.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $7,537 - $11,657 per month. If the successful candidate qualifies for PERS, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.
