About the role

We’re looking for a seasoned, pressure-tested strategic communications leader to own our narrative, manage high-stakes media relations, and build an authentic brand presence that resonates with local communities, law enforcement, and future talent.

What You'll Own

  • Build and execute a proactive external communications and PR strategy that establishes Flock as the undisputed leader in public safety technology.
  • Own crisis communications and issues management, proactively mitigating narrative risks and protecting company reputation across all public platforms.
  • Partner with executive leadership to elevate founder and executive thought leadership, securing high-impact keynotes and top-tier media placements.
  • Establish clear, measurable metrics for brand sentiment, media reach, and narrative control across key growth markets.
  • Report into the VP of Communications and also manage + grow a small but high-performing team of media relations experts; help manage external agency support.

What This Role Is Not

  • Not a pure corporate mouthpiece. We don’t do fluff or overly polished corporate speak; you must deliver clear, transparent, and high-impact messaging.
  • Not a passive reactive role. You won’t just respond to press inquiries; you are expected to aggressively shape the narrative before others write it for us.
  • Not a hands-off delegate-only position. We operate with a high bias for action; you will write, strategize, and execute alongside your team, and grow and nurture your team to have strong judgment when working in high-stakes environments with Tier 1 media.

What You Bring

Must-Have

  • 8–10 years of communications, media relations, or PR leadership experience, ideally within tech, public policy, or high-growth environments.
  • Proven track record of managing crisis communications, high-stakes public safety or policy narratives, and top-tier national media relationships.
  • Strong executive presence with experience media training and advising C-suite leaders.

Nice-to-Have

  • Policy comms experience or a desire to learn the function, players, and right strategies.
  • Experience working within public sector, law enforcement, or civic technology landscapes.

Compensation

Starting salary between $182,300 and $243,000 plus Flock stock options. Flock does not offer performance bonuses. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, and market indicators; your recruiter will discuss this in depth during your first chat.
