Director of College Counseling

About the role

Xavier High School seeks a qualified candidate for the Director of College Counseling, to begin on or about October 15, 2026. The Director of College Counseling works to fulfill Xavier’s mission by providing leadership in the department and overseeing the college application process for all Xavier students.

The director supervises a college counseling staff of four. This is a full-time, 11-month position. Work hours will include some evenings and weekends for special school events. The job reports to the headmaster, coordinates with the school counseling department, and works directly with a caseload of students.

Responsibilities

The Director of College Counseling will provide direction for the college counseling office, informed by a broad knowledge of programs and opportunities at a wide range of colleges and universities, as well as current knowledge of trends in college admissions. The director will also lead classes about the college search and application process, engage students in an effective discernment process, and serve as a reliable resource to and an effective communicator with parents.

Requirements

• An advanced degree in education, counseling, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience working in college admissions, preferably within a highly selective college admissions office.
• Excellent communication skills: engaging public speaking, active listening, and clear and dynamic writing.
• Superior organizational skills to manage systems as well as people.
• Ability to provide direction for the college counseling office.
• Knowledge of standardized testing programs and the skills to analyze and interpret data.
• Strong technology skills, including experience with Scoir and other specific college counseling software.
• Capacity to engage students in an effective discernment process.
• A comprehensive understanding of financial aid needs and opportunities.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have substantial experience working in a college admissions office or leading a college counseling program.

Pay

Salary range is $110,000 to $150,000.
