DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN & COMMUNITY LIFE: Grace Meridian Hill

About the role

Grace Meridian Hill is seeking a Director of Children & Community Life to provide logistical and relational leadership to our children and youth ministries and community life ministries. Ideal candidates will have a vibrant blend of gifts and experience in children’s ministry and in administration/project management.

Responsibilities

Children & Youth (20 hrs)

  • Sunday Supervision (4 hrs): Oversee classroom setup and child check-in; check in volunteers and paid workers; welcome children and parents; support transitions into classes; troubleshoot during service; substitute as needed; maintain parent communication via email, interpersonal contact, and annual parent meetings.
  • Volunteer Support & Administration (6 hrs): Schedule teachers and assistants; provide weekly lessons/materials; encourage and equip teachers; maintain administrative systems (supplies, classrooms, rosters, signage).
  • Special Events & Projects (6 hrs): Organize seasonal participation in main services (Advent/Christmas, Easter); support baptisms and communicants classes; plan onsite childcare/activities for special events; create fellowship and learning events for children or parents.
  • Youth Ministry Coordination (4 hrs): Provide logistical support to youth leaders; maintain parent communication; help plan and coordinate youth events; liaise with Grace DC Network youth programming.

Community Life (20 hrs)

  • Events & Special Projects (8 hrs): Plan and administrate logistics for major events and services (All-Hands Meeting, Leadership Retreat, Fall Retreat, Advent services, Holy Week services, Church Picnic, MLK Day, Network Joint Worship/Annual Meeting); recruit and build teams; support annual theme programming; spearhead fellowship and outreach; serve as liaison to Grace Network.
  • Member & Mission Systems (6 hrs): Welcome newcomers/inquirers; support New Member process; maintain member database; support Life Group logistics; mobilize members for ministry; administrate evangelism, cross-cultural discipleship, mercy/neighbor, and global missions programming.
  • General Administration & Leadership (6 hrs): Serve as staff team point person; support weekly staff meetings; maintain website and church calendar; supervise weekly service and liturgy planning; recruit in-service participants; serve as internal communications hub; respond to general requests; provide executive assistant support to Lead Pastor as needed.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with children and local church children’s ministries (professionally or volunteer).
  • Organized; strong administrative and project management skills.
  • Problem-solver; able to make and implement decisions confidently.
  • Enjoys empowering others and working collaboratively in teams.
  • Personable demeanor/style; able to set an encouraging/joyful “tone.”
  • Embraces and able to articulate and implement Grace Meridian Hill’s commitment to spiritual, cultural, and economic diversity; personal faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Background check required; experience in infant/child CPR certification a plus.

Pay

Salary range: $55,000 – $70,000
