About the Role

The Director of Career Services is a part-time, on-site role based in Harrisonburg, VA. This position oversees the strategic direction and daily operations of the Career Services office, including planning programs, setting goals, and evaluating outcomes. The director provides direct career counseling to students and alumni, supports career exploration, facilitates job and internship searches, and conducts mock interviews and workshops. The role includes building relationships with employers, coordinating career fairs and recruiting events, and collaborating with faculty and staff to integrate career development into the academic experience. The director also manages office staff and resources, maintains data and reporting on career outcomes, and ensures services align with EMU’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee strategic direction and daily operations of the Career Services office.
  • Plan programs, set goals, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Provide direct career counseling to students and alumni.
  • Support career exploration and facilitate job and internship searches.
  • Conduct mock interviews and workshops.
  • Build relationships with employers and coordinate career fairs and recruiting events.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate career development into the academic experience.
  • Manage office staff and resources.
  • Maintain data and reporting on career outcomes.
  • Ensure services align with EMU’s mission and values.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in comprehensive career services and career development, including program planning and service delivery.
  • Strong skills in career counseling and advising, with the ability to support diverse students and alumni in exploring academic and professional pathways.
  • Experience conducting mock interviews and preparing individuals for interviews, networking, and professional communication.
  • Proficiency in job search strategies, including resume and cover letter guidance, use of career platforms, and employer outreach.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Experience managing projects or leading an office or team, including planning events such as career fairs and workshops.
  • Familiarity with higher education environments and an understanding of best practices in student success and career readiness.
  • Commitment to EMU’s mission, including respect for Christian and Mennonite Anabaptist values and openness to working with individuals from all faith traditions.
  • Master’s degree in counseling, higher education, student affairs, human resources, or a related field preferred; bachelor’s degree required.
