About the role
The Director of Capital Projects, reporting to the Senior Director of Workplace Facilities, leads the planning, direction, and delivery of real estate, studio, newsroom, broadcast technology, and capital improvement projects. This role manages projects across design, construction, technology integration, commissioning, occupancy, and closeout while protecting operational, financial, and strategic interests. The Director serves as the primary liaison among leadership, operations, engineering, broadcast technology teams, architects, consultants, contractors, landlords, and regulatory agencies. Success requires delivering projects on schedule, within budget, and without disruption to broadcast operations.

Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a comprehensive portfolio of real estate, studio, newsroom, broadcast technology, and capital improvement projects.
- Establish project objectives that align with corporate business strategies and operational priorities.
- Create and maintain multi-year capital improvement plans.
- Prioritize projects based on operational, financial, technical, and strategic needs.
- Develop project budgets, schedules, resource plans, performance requirements, and delivery milestones.
- Prepare executive presentations and business cases to support project approvals and funding decisions.
- Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce project and facility costs.
- Lead capital projects from initial concept through design, construction, technology integration, commissioning, occupancy, and closeout.
- Serve as the owner's representative throughout all phases of design and construction.
- Establish project governance, communication protocols, escalation paths, and decision-making processes.
- Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and performance requirements.
- Monitor project performance against approved budgets, schedules, key performance indicators, and quality standards.
- Maintain alignment among leadership, operations, engineering, technology teams, consultants, contractors, landlords, and other stakeholders.
- Manage value engineering initiatives without compromising functionality, operational readiness, or quality.
- Evaluate contractor and consultant bids and support the negotiation of contracts and professional service agreements.
- Monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Review construction schedules, recovery plans, and corrective actions.
- Oversee quality assurance and quality control processes throughout project delivery.
- Manage change order reviews, negotiations, recommendations, and approval processes.
- Conduct regular project status meetings and communicate decisions, actions, risks, and dependencies.
- Coordinate facility construction with broadcast technology implementation.
- Partner with engineering and technology teams to ensure infrastructure readiness and alignment with operational requirements.
- Identify project risks and establish appropriate mitigation and contingency strategies.
- Monitor schedule, budget, operational, technical, permitting, and regulatory risks.
- Ensure contractor compliance with applicable safety requirements and project standards.
- Lead issue resolution and escalation processes to minimize project delays and operational disruption.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders.
- Facilitate communication between business units, station leadership, corporate departments, and project teams.
- Present project updates, recommendations, risks, and decisions to executive leadership.
- Manage stakeholder expectations, resolve conflicts, and maintain alignment throughout project delivery.
- Negotiate and administer professional service agreements, construction contracts, amendments, and related documentation.
- Review claims and support dispute resolution matters.
- Maintain complete and accurate project documentation, approvals, records, and closeout materials.
- Oversee commissioning of building, infrastructure, and technology systems.
- Coordinate operational readiness activities, testing, training, and transition planning.
- Manage punch-list completion and verify that identified deficiencies are resolved.
- Ensure operations and facilities personnel receive appropriate system and process training.
- Lead occupancy planning, move management, and space transition activities.
- Verify that all project closeout requirements, documentation, warranties, and approvals are completed.
- Build and lead internal project management teams.
- Mentor project managers and coordinators and support their professional development.
- Establish project management standards, governance practices, reporting tools, and performance metrics.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence.
- Travel as needed to DC, STM, Orlando, and Los Angeles to support project delivery.

Pay
The base range for this contract position is $65 - $75 per hour, depending on experience. Pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
