What Does the Job Involve?
The Director of Business Programs & Development provides leadership and direction to ensure the fulfillment of business growth, strategic direction and profit objectives are achieved. Plans, directs, organizes, and controls functions of business development and contracts. Develops negotiating strategies to manage customer interactions, locates, identifies and evaluates potential business development opportunities.
What Will My Responsibilities Include?
- Provides leadership and direction to ensure the fulfillment of business growth, strategic direction and profit objectives.
- Closes new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing and negotiating contracts; integrating contact requirements with business operations.
- Manages and directs daily interactions and negotiations with customers through the Customer Relations/Contracts team.
- Sets sales targets and defines strategy to achieve targets.
- Establish sales objectives in connection with divisions business plan.
- Locates, identifies, and evaluates potential business deals; discovers and explores potential opportunities.
- Identifies new markets for expansion and potential business development opportunities.
- Evaluates potential of each market (size, barriers to entry, technology, competitors, etc.).
- Analyzes sales statistics to determine business growth potential for division.
- Keeps current on market and industry trends, competitors and leading customer strategies and shares insights with team.
- Develops negotiating strategies and positions; studies integration of new venture with company strategies and operations; examines risks, potential.
- Supports corporate and division marketing objectives.
- Plans, directs, organizes and controls functions of business development and contracts including but not limited to hiring, training and development, evaluating performance, customer service, contract administration, estimating and engineering.
- Directs resolution to customer complaints.
- Provides liaison between field sales, customers, and internal company resources for new business pursuits.
- Acts as executive-level point of contact for customer purchasing organizations when it comes to customer complaints/disputes or new business opportunities.
- Provides clear communication to all relevant stakeholders.
- Initiates action plans to maintain existing business and secure new business.
- Directs proposal development process.
- Maintains continuous improvement culture for business development execution.
Key Skills
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) skills across executive settings and transactional arenas.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to read/understand contracts.
- Exceptional project/program management skills.
- Ability to learn product offering and general manufacturing process quickly, be detailed oriented.
- Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite; specifically, Excel, PowerPoint & Word.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, technical degree highly preferred.
- Experience: 7+ years manufacturing industry and aerospace experience preferred with 3+ years of management experience.
