Director of Business Development, Satellite Constellations
About the role
We are searching for a Director of Business Development to join the Muon Space team. You will be responsible for growing business in the areas of the Department of War (DoW). The role reports to the Senior Vice President of Growth and collaborates closely with Muon Space’s Engineering, Technology, Legal, and Finance departments.
You will lead outreach to the DoW customer community, strategic planning for that portfolio, and actively contribute to Muon Space’s internal development by setting priorities and serving as a voice for the customer. As a capture manager, you will create and lead new opportunities. This position can be performed remotely from an approved location.
Responsibilities
- Drive near-term and long-term growth for Muon Space in DoD.
- Lead customer engagement, pipeline development, and capture efforts.
- Provide thought leadership in developing and synthesizing a cohesive, executable strategy for target organizations.
- Identify new opportunities and lead capture throughout pipeline stages to support company growth targets.
- Create, maintain, and implement customer engagement plans.
- Lead proposals and RFI responses, including developing win themes, engaging with engineering to develop technical solutions, establishing Price to Win, writing content, and performing overall review before submission.
- Leverage Muon Space’s tools and processes to track and manage opportunities.
- Collaborate with other BD personnel and engineering on opportunities.
- Provide customer input into the product technology roadmap.
- Work with Legal and Finance on opportunities.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional experience in aerospace/defense with 5+ years in Business Development.
- Able to build and execute a plan with clear ownership and minimal oversight.
- Experience working with business development on USG captures and supporting and/or leading proposals.
- Demonstrated success capturing space business within the DoW/IC.
- Continuous learner who leads through uncertainty, takes calculated risks, and learns from mistakes.
- Consistently takes initiative and champions causes that need to be addressed.
- Demonstrated emotional intelligence to interact and empathize with staff, colleagues, cross-functional teams, and customers.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced development environment.
- Able to travel up to 35% of the time.
- Active DoW TS clearance.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a technical field.
- Demonstrated experience delivering to DoW/IC.
- Previous Profit & Loss (P&L) responsibility.
- Experience with remote sensing satellite development and/or mission operations.
- Experience working with a diverse set of U.S. Government DoW, IC, and Civil customers.
- Understanding of systems engineering processes and system architectures.
Pay
The salary range for this role is $177,000 - $200,000, with an OTE (On-Target Earnings) of $354,000 – $400,000 (base + target commission at 100% quota attainment). Commission structure is uncapped. Final compensation will be based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
