Job Summary

The Director of Business Development, Legal, Compliance & Risk drives, monitors, and improves sales performance for BDO’s legal channel service offerings including electronic discovery, digital forensics, information governance, cyber security, data analytics, forensic accounting, and investigations. This role also builds the sales presence and identifies, pursues, and closes new business opportunities in line with the Firm, regional, and office business strategies.

Job Duties

  • Develops new revenue opportunities for BDO’s Services targeting attorneys, Partners in top law firms, and corporate counsel, compliance, and risk professionals within corporations.
  • Bridges a strong network of C-Suite and legal market contacts translating into new business opportunities.
  • Executes business development plans in conjunction with Advisory Principals and Managing Directors in the local market for services relevant to the target market defined.
  • Identifies business development activities necessary to drive opportunities and define cross-selling and key account programs.
  • Facilitates monthly meetings with the Regional BD Director or their designee as well as practice leaders to design, implement, and report on business development / marketing plans for the practice.
  • Collaborates alongside practice leaders to understand service capabilities and reports back to the team on market perceptions, competitor activity, and market pulse.
  • Distributes business development plans, goals, and progress reports to Advisory practice leaders each quarter for feedback.
  • Directs practice strategies and resources to improve sales effectiveness and maintains compliance with national processes.
  • Negotiates pricing and overall delivery of services with prospects.
  • Provides feedback to National Business Development Services on processes, templates, tools, etc.
  • Coordinates with BDO Alliance USA and BDO International member firms on initiatives, as appropriate.

Education Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) or more years of business development / marketing experience in a professional services environment or industry relevant firm required; OR High School Diploma/GED and seven (7) or more years of business development / marketing experience in a professional services environment or industry relevant firm, required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Marketing, preferred.
  • Advanced Degree (JD, MBA), preferred.
  • Track record of developing business relationships with C-Suite executives (CEOs, CFOs), Board of Directors, and referral sources (attorneys, bankers, etc.), required.
  • Experience working in professional services firms including accounting, cyber security, data analytics, software, business advisory services and/or electronic discovery industries, preferred.
