Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategies for obtaining new project opportunities in the public and private sectors.
- Identify potential leads, research background data, and prioritize projects with Region and Area Manager(s), Estimating, and Marketing teams.
- Define and build relationships with partners, influencers, and key decision-makers to establish and maintain client relationships.
- Contribute to strategic business planning and stay informed on market trends, competitive intelligence, and political landscape.
- Support business development meetings to communicate, identify, update, and select target projects.
- Assess, implement, and reassess win strategies for project pursuits.
- Lead the team effort to respond to requests for proposals, qualifications, and other project-related information.
- Develop and direct implementation strategies, including format, objectives, features, benefits, and differentiators.
- Coordinate presentation strategies and provide training and preparation for presenters.
- Attend job progress meetings to monitor operational issues and gather feedback from stakeholders.
- Develop and implement procedures to benchmark performance against feedback from owners, designers, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Network with other Business Development Directors and Managers to share best practices and new project opportunities.
- Ensure representation at conferences, conventions, trade shows, and industry award events.
- Distribute company information to clients, business associations, communities, and professional groups.
- Participate in leadership roles within industry organizations to enhance the company’s position.
- Build strong knowledge of the construction process, delivery methods, and industry changes.
- Promote customer relations by building effective relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance the company’s image.
- Make presentations to proactively seek new business opportunities.
- Promote the company’s core values and vision through service, talent, and high performance.
- Serve as a role model and promote professional development within the team.
- Support operations training programs and commit to the development of project staff.
- Embrace and demonstrate key company initiatives such as Zero Harm, Sustainability, and core values.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, plus 4 to 6 years of related experience preferred, or 10+ years of professional experience.
- Ability to make decisions under tight deadlines, occasionally with incomplete information.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport at all levels inside and outside the organization.
- Ability to create, manage, and revise schedules while considering work/life balance.
- Self-motivated, energetic, and focused on long-term objectives with a drive for results.
- Excellent written, verbal, and organizational communication skills.
- Act with integrity, supporting company values and maintaining a customer-focused approach.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to delegate, provide direction, and address challenges effectively.
- Proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
Schedule
The majority of work is completed in an office setting with occasional travel to client offices or meeting sites.
