This engagement begins as a 1099 independent contractor arrangement, with the option to transition to full-time employment. Each engagement is unique. Because you work on one engagement at a time on a full-time basis, you're fully immersed in each client's environment, developing deep expertise across industries, systems, and business situations that most accountants never encounter in a traditional role. None of that happens without the right clients. The Director of Business Development is the engine that drives Promentrs forward, identifying opportunities, building relationships, and creating the engagements that put our consultants to work. Job Description As Director of Business Development at Promentrs, you are our rainmaker. You are responsible for identifying, developing, and closing new client engagements that deploy our bench of accounting and finance consultants. You will build relationships with CFOs,Controllers, VPs of Finance, and other senior business leaders at companies that need expert financial support, and you will position Promentrs as the partner they call first. This is a relationship-driven, consultative sales role, not a transactional one. You are not selling a commodity. You are selling expertise, trust, and a model that delivers senior finance talent quickly and effectively. To do that well, you need to understand the work our consultants do, speak the language of finance executives, recognize when a business situation creates a need for outside support, and make a compelling case for why Promentrs is the right answer. What You'll Do Client Development & Revenue Generation Identify, prospect, and close new client engagements across industries, targeting companies that need interim or project-based accounting and finance supportBuild and manage a robust pipeline of active opportunities, tracking progression from initial contact through signed engagementMeet and exceed revenue targets by consistently developing new business while expanding relationships within existing accountsDevelop and present tailored proposals that clearly articulate the Promentrs value proposition and match the right consultants to each client's specific needs Relationship Building & Market Intelligence Cultivate deep, long-term relationships with CFOs, Controllers, VPs of Finance, COOs, CEOs, and other senior decision-makers at target companiesDevelop and leverage a strong referral network including private equity firms, investment banks, law firms, audit firms, and other professional services partners who regularly work with companies needing finance supportStay close to the market, tracking business events such as mergers and acquisitions, rapid growth, leadership transitions, audit preparation, ERP implementations, and restructuring that signal demand for Promentrs consultantsRepresent Promentrs at industry events, CPA society gatherings, finance networking events, and other forums where target clients and referral partners are present Collaboration & Deployment Partner closely with the Director of Talent Acquisition to match available consultants with open client opportunities, ensuring the right fit on both sidesServe as the primary client relationship owner throughout the engagement lifecycle, from initial sale through project completion and renewalGather client feedback and communicate engagement performance insights back to Promentrs leadership to continuously improve service deliveryIdentify opportunities to expand existing client relationships into additional engagements or new service areas Strategy & Reporting Develop and execute a structured business development plan with clear targets, timelines, and strategies for penetrating new markets and client segmentsMaintain accurate and up-to-date records of all client interactions, pipeline activity, and revenue progress using CRM toolsTrack and report key business development metrics including pipeline value, close rates, revenue booked, and client retentionProvide market intelligence to Promentrs leadership on industry trends, competitor activity, and emerging client needs Leadership & Mentorship Build and develop a business development team as Promentrs scales, setting standards, sharing best practices, and investing in the growth of junior team membersEmbrace a mentorship mindset; at Promentrs, developing others is just as important as delivering results What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (MBA, CPA, or other professional designation is a strong plus)7 or more years of business development, consultative sales, or client relationship experience, with a demonstrated track record of closing and growing revenue in a professional services, staffing, or consulting environmentProven experience selling accounting and finance consulting, staffing, or project solutions to senior finance executives; you have sat across the table from CFOs and Controllers and earned their trustDeep familiarity with the accounting and finance landscape; you understand what an Accounting Manager does versus a Controller, you know what month-end close pressure feels like, and you can identify the business situations that create demand for outside expertiseExisting network of relationships with finance leaders, private equity firms, investment banks, audit firms, or other professional services referral partners is strongly preferredExperience selling consulting or staffing solutions involving interim professionals or project-based engagementsStrong consultative selling skills; you ask great questions, listen carefully, and build solutions around what the client actually needsProficiency with CRM platforms and a disciplined approach to pipeline management and activity trackingExceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills; you are polished, persuasive, and authenticSelf-motivated and results-driven; you thrive in an environment where your compensation reflects your performanceBig 4 public accounting experience or a strong professional network within the Big 4 community is highly preferredEntrepreneurial mindset; you are a builder who is energized by creating something from the ground up and comfortable operating without a fully established playbookDemonstrated proficiency with AI tools, including active use of Claude Cowork and Claude Code; Compensation includes a competitive base salary plus commission, structured to reward high performers generously. Full benefits details will be discussed during the interview process.
