Director of Business Affairs for the School of Business (CS26-017)
About the role
To build on a strong foundation of achievement and contribute to the realization of its ambitious institutional goals, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Director of Business Affairs for the School of Business (CS26-017).
Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate, with the Dean, activities to achieve the School's strategic goals and objectives.
- Serve as administrative source regarding policies and procedures and as primary staff representative of the Dean.
- Manage Dean's office operations and coordinate work across academic affairs and external affairs.
- Aid in coordinating School and building renovation projects when needed.
- Manage Dean's budget, fiscal planning, and budgetary matters.
- Supervise one Business Administrative Associate who assists with School accounting/purchasing activities.
- Provide financial and personnel information to the Dean, Provost's office, Budget Office, and HR as needed.
- Reconcile and approve all School of Business transactions.
- Act as School personnel manager by initiating and overseeing all faculty, professional/administrative staff, civil service, and graduate assistant searches/hires, policies/contracts, etc.
- Initiate and oversee all background checks for new hires in the School.
- Prepare all faculty, staff, and graduate student employment contracts, onboard all new employees, and certify each payroll for all School employees.
- Approve all bi-weekly and student work time in Banner. Oversee School timekeeping activity.
- Assure the School complies with hiring policies by working closely with the Dean, department chairs, directors, Provost's office, HR, EOA, and the Provost's Immigration Specialist.
- Calculate and oversee payment of merit increases, faculty/instructor/staff promotional increases.
- Care for all midpoint, tenure & promotion, and sabbatical review paperwork.
- Support the Dean, including managing his/her calendar and preparing delegated correspondence and reports.
- Serve as liaison between the School of Business and other units on campus.
- Act as signatory on behalf of the Dean when necessary and appropriate.
- Compile data for completion of accrediting body's (AACSB International) annual questionnaires/surveys for Dean's review.
- Coordinate AACSB accreditation team visits.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position.
- Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience.
- Three (3) years of demonstrated experience building and analyzing complex Excel spreadsheets.
- Three (3) years of experience managing complex administrative operations involving budgeting and personnel activities.
- Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Excellent supervisory and organizational skills.
- Initiative, flexibility, and ability to work and make decisions independently and handle multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to complete complex assignments with frequent interruptions.
- Must be able to prioritize and efficiently complete tasks while tracking deadlines for the Dean.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to represent the Dean's office and University well.
Supplemental Information
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in business administration, management, or a field related to the position. Two (2) years of professional business, financial, and/or managerial work experience. Three (3) years of demonstrated experience building and analyzing complex Excel spreadsheets. Three (3) years of experience managing complex administrative operations involving budgeting and personnel activities. Three (3) years of supervisory experience. Years can be concurrent with above. Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Excellent supervisory and organizational skills. Initiative, flexibility, and ability to work and make decisions independently and handle multiple tasks. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
