Director of Before and After School Programs (SY26-27)

Responsibilities

• Strategy Development and Systems Leadership
• Operationalize a vision for high-quality before- and after-school programming aligned with the Community Hub Schools strategy and district priorities.
• Serve as the primary district point of contact for before- and after-school implementation across participating Schools.
• Cook up cross-departmental, city agency, community partner, consultant, and district leadership coordination to ensure successful implementation.
• Develop policies, procedures, and operating frameworks that support program expansion and sustainability.
• Leverage Community Hub Schools as a learning and innovation network to pilot, evaluate, and scale effective before- and after-school models across the district.
• Identify system-level barriers and recommend solutions related to staffing, funding, governance, compliance, and program operations.
• Support long-term planning and sustainability efforts related to districtwide expansion.
• Partnership Development and Community Engagement
• Build and sustain relationships with community-based organizations, childcare providers, higher education institutions, city agencies, philanthropy, and other external partners.
• Facilitate collaboration among schools, providers, families, and community stakeholders.
• Support school leaders and Community Hub Coordinators in cultivating and managing local partnerships.
• Represent Boston Public Schools and the Community Hub Schools strategy in public forums, meetings, and citywide working groups.
• Develop communication strategies and engagement opportunities that elevate student, family, and community voice.
• Program Management and School Support
• Develop and manage districtwide implementation plans and timelines.
• Maintain school-level implementation trackers and monitor progress toward key milestones.
• Provide technical assistance, consultation, coaching, and support to principals, Community Hub Coordinators, and school-based teams.
• Develop tools, templates, handbooks, and resources to support school-based implementation.
• Support schools in addressing operational challenges and navigating relationships with external providers.
• Own district-side operational troubleshooting, including EEC compliance monitoring, voucher coordination, budget/finance coordination, staffing, facilities, and partner-related implementation issues.
• Equity, Access, and Quality Improvement
• Develop and oversee a districtwide quality framework for before- and after-school programming.
• Ensure equitable access to programming across schools, neighborhoods, and student populations.
• Monitor participation trends and identify barriers affecting access and engagement.
• Develop strategies to increase participation among historically underserved students and families.
• Establish systems for measuring program quality, family satisfaction, and student outcomes.
• Promote continuous improvement through regular review of implementation and outcome data.
• Data, Evaluation, and Continuous Improvement
• Collect, analyze, interpret, and communicate program implementation and outcome data.
• Develop and maintain systems to monitor enrollment, attendance, participation, quality indicators, and family satisfaction.
• Use data to identify promising practices, implementation challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
• Lead evaluation efforts and support reporting to district leadership, funders, and community stakeholders.
• Develop recommendations based on implementation findings to inform future policy and expansion efforts.
• Support the creation of performance metrics and accountability structures for districtwide implementation.
• Fiscal Management and Resource Development
• Coordinate district budget planning and resource allocation related to before- and after-school programming.
• Support the development of sustainable funding strategies, including public funding, vouchers, grants, and philanthropic investments.
• Monitor program expenditures and support financial planning efforts.
• Identify and support grant opportunities that advance the district’s expanded learning goals.
• Collaborate with district departments and external partners to maximize available resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Youth Development, Social Work, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in education, youth development, community schools, expanded learning, or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Strong project management, organizational, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience in collaborating with stakeholders such as staff, consultants, and/or external partners.
• Strong written, verbal, analytical, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and culturally responsive practice.
• Ability to work collaboratively across diverse stakeholder groups.
