Director, Newsletter Strategy & Email Operations

About the role
Condé Nast is seeking a bold leader to drive the global newsletter and email transformation. This key leadership role sits within Audience Strategy in Content Operations. The Director will evolve newsletters from simple distribution channels into stand-alone editorial products that delight readers, build direct relationships, and support all Unified KPIs—including community engagement, subscriber conversion, and retention. The role partners with editorial, marketing, lifecycle, and product teams to unify brand voice, prevent churn, and create premium inbox experiences across Condé Nast’s portfolio of iconic brands.
Responsibilities
- Lead global newsletter strategy, working with brand teams to grow audience, community, and revenue.
- Develop and execute newsletter strategies that drive engagement, traffic, subscriptions, retention, and commerce.
- Guide brand-specific strategies, challenging assumptions and pushing innovative approaches.
- Propose, test, and mentor internal talent to author or anchor newsletters, providing data-backed feedback on reader-writer relationships.
- Partner with lifecycle, subscriptions, memberships, commerce, and advertising teams to align newsletter value with revenue goals.
- Create and expand network strategies for off-platform newsletters and subscriber-only content.
- Ensure tight alignment with lifecycle teams on subscriber communications and timing.
- Manage the Email Operations team, overseeing setup and delivery via the Email Service Provider.
- Collaborate with product teams to accelerate global newsletter and email capabilities.
- Influence partnerships with platforms like Substack and shape Condé Nast’s email ecosystem.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in newsletters and the email ecosystem.
- Proven ability to build trust with stakeholders across editorial, product, and revenue teams.
- Thought leadership in audience strategy and content operations.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with strong influencing skills to turn recommendations into action.
- Exceptional data storytelling and presentation abilities.
- Deep understanding of email analytics and operations.
- In-depth knowledge of audience strategies, publisher trends, and revenue models.
- Experience managing international teams is advantageous.
- International living or work experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in a second language (e.g., French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Japanese) is beneficial.
Pay
Expected base salary range for this position is $145,000–$155,000, based on skills, training, experience, and education.
