About the role

The National Sales Director is responsible for leading and executing the organization's national sales strategy to achieve revenue, profitability, market share, and growth objectives. This role provides leadership, coaching, and performance management to multiple Area Sales Managers across assigned regions. The National Sales Director drives a high-performance sales culture focused on customer acquisition, account growth, sales execution, and consistent achievement of sales quotas. The ideal candidate is a strategic and hands-on sales leader with experience managing multi-level field sales organizations, leading through managers, and developing scalable processes that improve productivity and business results.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction accountability for the Division’s sales strategy.
  • Develop the overall growth strategy that leads to the accomplishment of both short- and long-term sales and market share goals.
  • Work closely with internal functions (i.e. Marketing, eBusiness, Operations, IT, HR, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Customer Service, etc.) to drive performance and achieve growth objectives.
  • Identify new market or segment strategy opportunities.
  • Assist in executing a robust pricing strategy to retain existing and new business.
  • Drive sales processes and multi-year roadmap for profitable growth.
  • Lead complex sales cycles, products, and programs.
  • Monitor and lead pipeline of opportunities for sustained growth.
  • Bring competitive insights forward and makes recommendations on alternative ways to reach new and existing sales channels.
  • Develop effective and tailored communication plans, timelines/key deliverables, aligns resources, and establishes investment requirements necessary to achieve growth objectives.
  • Develop and executes training programs to improve the effectiveness of the sales representatives.
  • Build on best practices and processes to help grow the business.
  • Lead and evolve the sales organization.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage cross-channel collaboration while increasing market share and operational efficiencies.
  • Approve incentive plans for the entire sales organization, including contests and/or bonus plans while analyzing the effectiveness of each incentive plan.
  • Manage and report on sales results, market development, sales negotiations, and pipeline management.
  • Quickly analyze business results to identify, create, and execute actions to improve performance.
  • Skillfully negotiate complex contracts.
  • Maintain a dynamic succession plan while ensuring effective transition plans and development of top talent.

Requirements

  • Leadership: History of building high-performing individuals and teams by recruiting, retaining, developing and motivating exceptional talent. Strong leadership experience in sales, business development, and management with demonstrated success executing sales plans, vision and strategy, management of sales support functions, and motivating and inspiring individuals and teams.
  • Strong communication: Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, with experience delivering presentations to all levels of the organization including large (+500) groups.
  • Tenacious, proactive, entrepreneurial spirit: Able to inspire passion and integrity; continuously seek and drive new ideas and better ways to accomplish tasks. Proactive and customer/market oriented.
  • Teams effectively: Collaborates with all levels of the organization.
  • Technical skills: Proven track record in revenue growth and profitability.
  • Experience: 10+ years of related business and management experience. Proven experience leading multiple sales channels including employee, non-direct / independent sales channels.
  • Education: BA/BS in Business, and/or combination education and experience in Business, Sales or related field.

Pay

Salary range: $160,000–$170,000 based on experience, plus bonus opportunity.

Schedule

Typical/expected overnight travel: approximately 40–50%.
