Director, Mechanical Engineering ($225k-$300k + Equity) at Eight Sleep

Job Description

• Direct the mechanical engineering lifecycle, managing teams of ME, soft goods, and test engineers to ensure flawless execution from concept to production.
• Architect complex electromechanical systems, making critical technical trade-offs across fluids, mechanisms, and sensor integration for the flagship Pod and new products.
• Collaborate directly with the CPO and executive team to define the hardware roadmap and scale manufacturing through frequent travel to partners in China.

Requirements

• Requires 10+ years of experience developing complex electromechanical consumer electronics or medical devices with a track record of high-volume launches in Asia.
• Must have 2+ years of direct management experience or proven success as a technical lead ready to step into a player-coach leadership role.
• Demonstrates deep technical proficiency in injection molding, DFM/DFA, and tolerance analysis, with additional expertise in thermal or fluid systems highly preferred.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Skills

• Strong leadership and team management skills.
• Experience with complex electromechanical systems design.
• Expertise in injection molding, DFM/DFA, and tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of thermal or fluid systems.
