Joining The American Red Cross is like nothing else—it’s as much something you feel as something you do. You become a vital part of the world’s largest humanitarian network, working alongside welcoming individuals who are exceptional yet unassuming, diverse yet united. You grow your career within a movement that measures success in lives helped, communities strengthened, and individuals empowered. With mentors who support your growth and a mission bigger than any one of us, you align your life’s work with purpose. The Red Cross cares for its team with competitive compensation and benefits, respecting who you are both at work and away from it.

About the role

As Director of Marketing Technology Architecture for the Fundraising and Marketing Technology Group (FMTG), you will lead the technical strategy behind how the American Red Cross builds relationships with millions of donors and blood donors. This new role is created to move personalization and AI-driven marketing technology from concept to production, turning ambition into a tangible technical roadmap.

You will lead a team of four architects covering AEM, marketing communications (Adobe Campaign), fundraising systems, and analytics/personalization (Adobe Target). Your role is to architect the systems, mentor your team to build working proof-of-concepts, and excite marketing leaders about what’s possible. This position is 100% remote, with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States, but requires an east coast schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the technical evaluation and integration of personalization and journey-orchestration platforms—including Adobe Real-Time CDP, Adobe Journey Optimizer, and integrations with Salesforce Marketing Cloud—and make the architectural case for solutions that align with existing technology investments.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage existing investments in Adobe Experience Cloud and marketing profiles to drive engagement across platforms.
  • Own service delivery for web personalization, translating business goals into insight-driven, actionable campaigns.
  • Build proof-of-concepts hands-on to give marketing and fundraising leaders tangible examples to react to, rather than just roadmap slides.
  • Provide expert guidance on emerging tools and technology trends, acting as the technical translator between business needs and achievable solutions.
  • Anchor the Fundraising Agile Release Train as a Systems Architect, working directly with senior leadership to realize value.
  • Lead the expansion of Generative AI across marketing technology systems, with strong attention to governance, safety, and sound technical design.
  • Guide architectural decisions as existing martech platforms increasingly incorporate LLM-driven capabilities.
  • Manage and mentor a team of four architects (AEM, marketing communications, fundraising systems, analytics/personalization), fostering a culture where proof-of-concepts drive decisions.
  • Own the department’s technology architecture roadmap, translating multi-year vision into deliverable increments.
  • Lead evaluation and selection of architectural standards, tools, and processes across the marketing technology stack.
  • Establish operating policies and procedures that affect departments and subordinate sections, interpret company-wide policies, and develop budgets, schedules, and performance standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in systems architecture or engineering.
  • Three or more years in a direct staff management role.
  • Seven or more years working directly with analytics, audience management, and personalization technologies.
  • Five or more years of architecting CRM and marketing technology solutions within Adobe Experience Cloud (AEM, Adobe Campaign, Adobe Target, Adobe Analytics) or Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
  • Three or more years of experience developing applications with object-oriented programming or expertise in a modern scripting language.
  • Direct experience with a customer data platform or journey-orchestration tool (e.g., Adobe Real-Time CDP, Adobe Journey Optimizer, Salesforce Data Cloud/Journey Builder) is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in an Agile delivery environment, preferably using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
  • Thorough understanding of the Generative AI landscape, including hands-on experience implementing systems leveraging LLMs.
  • Demonstrated experience with web application security, privacy, and data governance.
  • Background in cloud computing and data warehouses, with preference for AWS platform experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a team in a collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to the non-profit sector and its values.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; the American Red Cross does not sponsor employment visas.
  • Some domestic travel may be required.

Combination of education and experience may satisfy requirements as long as the total years equate to the minimum specified.

Physical Requirements

  • Physical requirements are typical of an office environment.
  • Operational flexibility to meet sudden and unpredictable needs.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods.
  • May include sitting for long periods, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.

Pay

The annual salary range for this position is $170,000 - $190,000. Salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location where the work is primarily performed and may vary based on skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in the role. This role does not include an annual bonus.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Health Spending Accounts and Flexible Spending Accounts.
  • Paid time off starting at 19 days per year, based on job type and tenure.
  • 11 paid holidays (six core holidays and five floating holidays).
  • 401K with up to 6% match.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
