Director, Marketing
About the Role
This position is responsible for creating and executing marketing plans for assigned service lines and/or campuses/entities. Responsibilities include strategy and tactic development, creative concept and messaging, goal-setting, financial management, results measurement, and oversight of ongoing implementation. The role uses marketing and communications principles to build awareness and preference for the Memorial Hermann brand, service lines, and campuses. The individual will build and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders and external groups to foster profitable growth.
This role may oversee marketing for system service line(s), key enterprise-wide clinical services, a system division, and/or a geographic market or specialty facility. The position typically reports to the Associate Vice President of Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Develops complex marketing strategies and manages the implementation of fact-based, goal-focused, measurable marketing programs aligned with Memorial Hermann’s strategic vision and service line/campus goals to achieve smart growth and ROI.
- Actively participates in the service line and/or campus/entity administrative team, maintaining in-depth knowledge of strategic objectives, business goals, and clinical capabilities.
- Initiates and directs annual marketing planning by reviewing demographic, socioeconomic, competitive data, industry trends, and other internal/external factors affecting business success.
- Leads diverse teams of functional specialists in implementing marketing strategies and tactics, resolving conflicts, and serving as the local escalation point of contact.
- Prepares and administers the annual budget, ensuring financial accountability and cost-effective stewardship of resources. Monitors expenses, approves invoices, and accounts for variances.
- Establishes strategy and campaign metrics, evaluates effectiveness, and prepares reports on results. Adjusts or eliminates activities based on findings and reports to senior leadership monthly.
- Collaborates with business unit executives, councils, physicians, and other departments to achieve marketing objectives, providing strategic direction and leadership.
- Responds promptly to internal requests and external inquiries to achieve business objectives, facilitating resolution of escalated concerns.
- Leads and implements internal communications efforts, including copy development and message delivery via employee newsletters, intranet, and digital monitors.
- Oversees coordination of internal and external marketing events, including promotion, logistics, and evaluation. May require night, weekend, or physical responsibilities (e.g., heavy lifting).
- Builds partnership relationships with Chambers, school districts, local government, businesses, and community groups through proactive, hands-on involvement.
- Advocates for safe care to patients, staff, and visitors, adhering to Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards.
- Promotes professional growth and development by meeting continuing education requirements and supporting department-based goals.
- Demonstrates commitment to compassionate, personalized care by modeling Memorial Hermann’s service standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Business/Strategy, or a related field required. Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or MS in a related field) considered.
- Eight (8) years of professional experience in marketing or a related field, with previous product or service line marketing experience required.
- Proven business results and performance excellence in previous positions.
- Previous management experience required.
- Willingness to commute within the greater metropolitan area for business and customer needs.
- Experience in multi-channel advertising, public relations, corporate communications, digital, and sales strategies to achieve market share and brand power.
- Demonstrated success in creating, implementing, and measuring marketing strategies for defined product lines, geographic markets, or vertical segments.
- Experience in strategic and tactical marketing/business plan development, implementation, evaluation, and tracking, as well as budgeting and control.
- Ability to manage time, priorities, large projects, and adhere to deadlines.
- Strong fiscal responsibility, including budget management and cost center accountability.
- Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), CRM programs, and other web-based applications.
