About the role

The Director of Maintenance is responsible for planning and ensuring that all aviation maintenance is conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner, in compliance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). The Director of Maintenance is the point of contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all aviation maintenance-related activities. The Director of Maintenance is expected to follow the Mayo Clinic Culture of Safety by modeling 5 safety behaviors: pay attention to detail, communicate clearly, have a questioning and receptive attitude, hand-off effectively, and support each other. The ultimate goal is to place the needs of our patients first by ensuring aviation safety. This is an FAA safety-sensitive position.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and ensuring all aviation maintenance is conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner, in compliance with all applicable Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
  • Point of contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for all aviation maintenance-related activities.

  • Ensure aviation safety by placing the needs of our patients first.

Qualifications

  • Candidate must meet the requirements of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 14, Section 119.71(e), titled “Management personnel: Qualifications for operations conducted under part 135 of this chapter.”
  • Minimum Education and/or Experience: Mechanic certificate with airframe and powerplant ratings. Either:
    • 3 years' experience, within the last 6 years, maintaining aircraft as a certificated mechanic, including experience in maintaining the same category and class of aircraft used by Mayo Clinic (BK117-D3/D2, BK117-C2, King Air BE-300C), or
    • 3 years’ experience within the past 6 years repairing aircraft in a certificated airframe repair station, including 1 year in the capacity of approving aircraft for return to service.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic Policy.

Preferred Experience and/or Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Business Management or related field preferred.
  • 3 years’ supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in a helicopter EMS operation preferred.
  • Previous experience in an air ambulance operation preferred.
  • Previous experience as a Director of Maintenance preferred.

Schedule Details

The Director of Maintenance supervises aviation technicians at five facilities and travel between locations is required. Mayo Clinic is a 24/7/365 operation, so calls after hours can be expected.
