About the role

The Director of Investor Relations plays a pivotal role in shaping and elevating Avient's strategy, financial performance, and long-term value creation story to the investment community. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role partners closely with Finance, Legal, Communications, and business/functional leaders, and serves as a key interface with the CEO, Operating Council, and Board.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a trusted advisor to the CFO, CEO, and senior leadership, providing insights on investor sentiment, market trends, valuation drivers, and industry trends to inform strategic decisions.
  • Leads the development and execution of Avient’s investor relations strategy, ensuring alignment with the company’s business priorities, financial performance, and long-term growth objectives.
  • Develops and communicates a clear, compelling, and consistent messaging that resonates with the investment community and accurately reflects Avient’s strategy and value creation drivers.
  • Owns the quarterly earnings process from an investor relations perspective, including preparation of earnings scripts, presentations, and Q&A materials in partnership with Finance and executive leadership.
  • Supports executive leadership in investor meetings, conferences, and non-deal roadshows, providing preparation, coaching, and follow-up to ensure effective engagement.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with institutional investors, equity analysts, and rating agencies, ensuring timely, accurate, and thoughtful responses to inquiries.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of market activity, peer performance, analyst models, and shareholder composition, translating insights into actionable recommendations for leadership.
  • Ensures all investor communications adhere to SEC regulations, Reg FD, and company disclosure policies in close partnership with Legal.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with Finance, Communications, Legal, and business/functional leaders to ensure alignment of messaging across earnings materials, investor presentations, annual reports, and other disclosures.
  • Leads preparation of investor-facing materials, including investor presentations, conference materials, and investor day content, ensuring consistency and clarity of messaging.
  • Supports strategic initiatives such as M&A, capital allocation updates, and ESG communications from an investor messaging and engagement perspective.
  • Continuously enhances investor relations processes, tools, and engagement approaches to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and overall market impact.
  • Embraces the role of a change agent, actively modeling Avient Leadership Behaviors while shaping and strengthening how the company engages with the investment community.
  • Coaches and influences stakeholders to ensure consistent, high-quality external messaging aligned with business strategy.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business, or related field or equivalent experience; MBA, CFA, or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive experience in investor relations, corporate finance, equity research, or investment banking, with a strong understanding of capital markets.
  • Experience in a publicly traded company and/or global manufacturing or similarly complex, matrixed industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen, including deep understanding of financial statements, valuation methodologies, and key performance drivers.
  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear, concise, and compelling messages for external audiences.
  • Strong executive presence and ability to effectively engage with senior leadership, Board members, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as part of a team with excellent collaboration skills across functions and with business partners.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple priorities with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and synthesize information into actionable insights.
  • High level of integrity, sound judgment, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with experience leveraging data to provide insights and inform decision-making.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint; experience with investor relations tools and financial data platforms preferred.
