About the Role
Under general direction, plans, organizes and supervises the functions of the District Maintenance and Operations Department; supervises the maintenance, repair and improvement of all buildings, equipment, and grounds; and performs related work as required. The position is designated as Management by the Board of Education.
Responsibilities
- Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures related to school buildings and grounds.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff, stakeholders, and the community.
- Supervise and accurately evaluate the performance of assigned staff.
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
- Prepare and manage budgets for maintenance and operations.
- Oversee facilities operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair.
- Train and provide work direction to maintenance, repair, and custodial employees.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in maintenance management or a related field.
- Five years of increasingly responsible experience in building trades, maintenance, and custodial work.
- Valid California driver’s license.
- Out-of-district applicants must pass a T.B. test and fingerprinting if selected.
- Practical skills test may be administered during the interview.

- Knowledge of:
- Legal codes related to school buildings and grounds.
- Facilities operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair.
- District organization, operations, policies, and objectives.
- Principles of training and providing work direction.
- Evaluation procedures and practices.
- Budget preparation and control.
- Ability to:
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships.
- Effectively supervise and evaluate staff performance.
