Director Human Resources
PlayMetrics is a fast-growing B2B SaaS company revolutionizing the way youth sports organizations operate. We are looking for a strategic, hands-on Director of Human Resources to join our leadership team in Morrisville, NC.
About the Role
We're hiring a Director of HR to build and run the people function as we scale. This is a hands-on role covering recruiting, compensation, HRIS/payroll, compliance, and performance management, reporting to the COO in Morrisville, NC. You’ll champion our team’s growth and ensure our people thrive as we scale. This is a deeply operational role: you will own the systems, processes, and execution that keep our HR function running while serving as a strategic advisor to our leadership team.
If you thrive in a PE-backed startup environment where you’re expected to build infrastructure, help run it yourself, and then build a team around you, this role is for you.
Responsibilities
- Talent Acquisition & Recruiting Operations: Manage an in-house recruiter. Set and track hiring metrics (time-to-fill, offer-acceptance rate, cost-per-hire) and report them monthly to leadership.
- Compensation & Benefits: Manage annual compensation reviews and benchmarking against market data. Design and administer competitive benefits programs, including medical/dental/vision, 401(k), disability/life, vendor relationships, and open enrollment logistics.
- Performance Management: Run the full review cycle, including calibration sessions with managers, PIP processes, and promotion and compensation adjustment recommendations. Build clear pathways for professional advancement and provide coaching to managers on delivering actionable feedback.
- HRIS & Payroll Operations: Own the HRIS platform, maintain accurate employee records, process or oversee payroll, and manage integrations with finance and accounting. Serve as the system administrator and strategic owner while building a supporting team.
- HR Compliance & Policy: Maintain compliance with federal, North Carolina, and California employment law (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, California Pay Transparency requirements, etc.). Own the employee handbook, I-9/E-Verify processes, required postings, filings, OSHA recordkeeping, and workplace safety compliance.
- Employee Relations: Investigate and resolve employee complaints with discretion, empathy, and integrity. Conduct exit interviews, track turnover data, and document all cases per legal requirements (working with in-house counsel).
- Culture & Employee Experience: Cultivate a high-performance and collaborative environment that reflects our passion for exceptional SaaS products and data-driven decision-making. Steward our values and help our team thrive as we grow.
- Org Design & Leadership Advising: Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive team on headcount planning, reporting structures, reorgs, and the people challenges that come with scaling a fast-moving SaaS business.
Requirements
- Experience: 7+ years in HR, including 3+ years in a leadership role (Director, Head of HR, or senior HRBP), ideally at a company between 100–500 employees in tech or SaaS.
- HRIS & Payroll Ownership: Direct, hands-on experience running payroll and administering an HRIS platform. You have been the system owner, not just a user.
- Compensation Expertise: Experience building compensation bands and running benchmarking exercises using market survey data.
- Benefits Administration: Experience managing benefits vendor relationships and leading open enrollment from end to end.
- Working Knowledge of Employment Law: Federal employment law and North Carolina state law, with the ability to stay current and apply it practically.
- Data-Driven and Analytical Mindset: Comfortable pulling and presenting HR metrics (turnover, engagement, hiring funnel data) to the leadership team on a regular cadence.
- Org Design & Leadership Advising: Work autonomously and under the direction of the executive team to execute on headcount planning, reporting structure changes, and reorgs. Translate leadership decisions into people operations action with minimal oversight.
- Communication & Emotional Intelligence: A natural connector who can navigate sensitive employee relations with discretion, empathy, and integrity.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus, not required.
- Experience using Paylocity is a plus.
- Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
- Based locally in the Morrisville/RTP area or willing to relocate. Hybrid schedule in the office Mondays and Thursdays.
Benefits
- Competitive Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience and meaningful opportunities for growth.
- Comprehensive Benefits: 100% company-paid medical, dental, and vision plans for you and your dependents, 401(k) with match, and company-paid disability and life insurance.
- Work Environment: A collaborative, casual, and energetic office at our Morrisville headquarters on a hybrid schedule.
- Impact: The opportunity to help build a world-class people function at a company actively changing the landscape of youth sports technology.
