About the role
The Treasury Corporate Finance team supports Schwab's balance sheet strategy with a focus on capital management and funding. The Director of Funding plays a crucial role in establishing and maintaining funding programs across legal entities, developing and executing a comprehensive funding and liability management plan, and managing debt and capital issuances.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a holistic funding and liability management plan
- Lead the planning and execution of debt and capital issuances
- Maintain strong relationships with key outside stakeholders, including investment banking partners, fixed income investors, and rating agencies
- Engage with investment banking partners, particularly regarding dealer selection and issuance planning and execution
- Act as the primary liaison with Schwab’s fixed income investor base, leading the firm’s fixed income marking program
- Work closely with rating agencies to maintain a robust understanding of rating agency methodologies and their impacts on Schwab’s ratings
Requirements
- Proven experience leading key funding desk activities, such as issuance, redemption, share repurchase, and other capital markets transactions
- Experience with corporate finance and analytical assessments
- Knowledge of potential new funding channels
- Direct people management experience, including coaching, developing, and building a high-performing team
- Bachelor’s degree, with an emphasis on finance or a related field
- Strong knowledge of debt capital markets and related financial and accounting topics
- Experience developing and delivering presentations on complex topics to senior/executive leaders
- Multiple experiences successfully engaging with key external stakeholders
- Past success in driving results with persistence and ownership
- Strong attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to translate technical concepts into clear insights
- Proficiency in AI, data analytics, and large enterprise databases
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience, with a focus on a mix of leading key funding desk activities, corporate finance, and assessing potential new funding channels
- 2+ years of direct people management experience, including proven ability to coach, develop, and build a high-performing team
- Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for a Master’s degree or CFA
