About the role
The Director of Accounting and Finance will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company, overseeing the day-to-day functions of the Accounting Department. This role includes managing the month-end close of the facility’s general ledger and the preparation of the budget.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the operation of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll.
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures.
- Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures compliance with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards.
- Recommends benchmarks to measure the company’s performance.
- Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
- Provides financial analysis to assist Executive Leadership with decisions on capital investments, pricing, and contract negotiations.
- Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
- Files quarterly and annual reports as required.
- Files initial and annual state corporate registrations, SUTA account setups, follow-up registrations, and other state-mandated requirements.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Ensures effective communication and issue escalation across stakeholders.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to create and/or update plans, budgets, and procedural documents.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
- Ten (10) or more years of related accounting/finance experience, with several years in CRO or biopharma industry accounting preferred.
- Experience with financial reporting requirements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational and management skills.
- Computer competency (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to travel up to [unspecified amount].
