About the Role

The Director of Facilities acts on their own initiative to establish methods, procedures, and technical requirements ensuring winery infrastructure, buildings, and equipment are maintained to a high degree of reliability. This supports day-to-day winery operations across Geyserville (Francis Ford Coppola Winery) and Napa sites (Black Stallion Estate Winery, Delicato Corporate Offices). The role also ensures all hospitality areas—including restaurants, tasting rooms, retail and memorabilia displays, pool, pavilion, changing cabins, bocce courts, event space, grand staircase, guest houses, and guest suites—are maintained to a high standard for a visually impressive and safe guest experience. Responsibilities include setting leadership and performance standards for applicable departments and vendors, and ensuring consistent performance.

Strong cross-functional communication, collaboration, and process improvement drive are required to keep pace with company growth, technological advances, and industry changes.

Leadership and Team Culture

  • Oversees, directs, and manages departmental activities and team performance.

  • Executes departmental financial objectives by preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective action.
  • Achieves departmental results to ensure effective delivery of the strategic plan.
  • Develops staffing needs; attracts, motivates, and retains a workforce with appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Promotes and ensures a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Leads and prepares staff for success in a continually changing environment.
  • Fosters a work environment encouraging creative thinking, flexibility, and innovation.
  • Addresses employee issues, concerns, and complaints objectively and confidentially; notifies HR Business Partner and keeps immediate manager informed as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance and consistent application of company policies, initiatives, and decisions.
  • Coaches, guides, and develops direct reports; fully engages in the GPS (Performance Management) process; provides high-quality feedback and ensures proper documentation of performance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all facilities and production maintenance.
  • Plans and executes all phases of preventative and reactive maintenance, adhering to quality, productivity, customer, compliance, and budgetary standards.
  • Ensures accurate regulatory reporting for distribution and treatment of domestic water, process water, domestic waste, elevators, and restaurant compliance.
  • Owns the capital budget to support winery operations and hospitality, including equipment and infrastructure maintenance; manages Capital Expense Requests, project cost tracking, and timely project completion.
  • Ensures continuous improvement processes are developed and maintained to enable team collaboration, analysis, and problem-solving for equipment reliability, quality, efficiencies, and lower operating costs.
  • Communicates and coordinates with winemaking, cellar, bottling, compliance, and support functions to ensure wine quality focus, annual harvest processing, project delivery, maintenance requirements, and overall facility process/performance effectiveness.
  • Enforces Safety, ISO, cGMP, and other applicable business-critical standards.
  • Promotes skill development programs to keep pace with current and future technology requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • AA/AS degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance; basic refrigeration and electrical knowledge is a plus.
  • 7+ years of mechanical experience in Industrial Maintenance.
  • 5+ years of leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Valid California Driver’s License.

Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of winery production or similar manufacturing background, project management, process improvement, and team leadership.
  • Strong computer knowledge, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) with a strong emphasis on Excel for data analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills—both formal and informal—with the ability to communicate at all organizational levels.
  • Knowledge of managerial finance.

Working Conditions

  • General office environment with occasional travel.
  • Required to drive an automotive vehicle or equipment.
  • Indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to elements and temperature variations.
  • Exposure to weather-related temperature and humidity extremes.
  • Extended hours.
  • Work at protected heights of up to 50 feet.
  • Exposure to varying levels of dust, chemicals, fumes, gases, and noisy equipment.

Pay

This is an exempt position with a pay range of $106,311.60 to $166,226.64. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range. Actual placement within the range will be contingent upon qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
