About the role

The Director, Donor Development plays a key role in ensuring data integrity, analyzing reports to evaluate and implement action plans, developing and stewarding donor relationships, and mobilizing supporters to drive mission impact and revenue growth. This position reports to the Executive Director or Senior Director of Donor Development and supports the Market Impact team by sharing successes, problem-solving, and fostering a collaborative network.

The Director is responsible for achieving revenue goals through donor and prospect relationship development, securing market volunteer leadership, and generating and closing leads for mission investment products in large or medium-size markets. This role positions March of Dimes as a leader in maternal and child health care, establishes partnerships with corporations, foundations, community leaders, and other organizations, and collaborates with market staff to execute event core tactics.

Responsibilities

  • Mission Leadership and Impact
    • Place mission impact at the forefront of all work and translate mission advocacy to demonstrate impact and identify supporter philanthropic interests.
    • Leverage mission impact opportunities to engage supporters, drive expansion of mission programs, and achieve revenue growth and measurable mission strategies.
    • Communicate March of Dimes' work to deliver impact, leverage support, and create new mission investment opportunities.
    • Mobilize volunteers, increase corporate relationships, and meet market fundraising goals while positioning March of Dimes as a leader in maternal and child health care.
  • Diversified Revenue Portfolio
    • Maintain and grow a donor revenue portfolio by moving donors through the donor continuum and adding new prospects.
    • Increase local revenue by identifying corporate partners and developing strategic alliances that drive mission impact and mobilize supporters.
    • Identify diversified revenue opportunities aligned with donor mission goals.
    • Maintain a year-round revenue pipeline for market events, mission investment revenue streams, major and mid-level gifts, and planned giving.
    • Identify, recruit, and lead volunteer leadership to increase overall market revenue growth.
    • Research and analyze revenue growth opportunities, identify partners, and develop strategic alliances.
    • Ensure best-in-class fundraising events that drive impact, acquire new supporters, and increase revenue.
    • Provide tailored donor experiences and create mission-led activations for stewardship plans.
    • Ensure a 360-degree view of market donors and prospects by logging all interactions in CRM.
  • Volunteer Leadership
    • Collaborate with market leadership to identify, recruit, and steward qualified volunteer leaders supporting impact, growth, and performance goals.
    • Engage volunteers year-round in meaningful opportunities within mission impact, fundraising, and advocacy priorities.
    • Utilize the Volunteer Hub to engage and inform volunteers.
    • Qualify and activate candidates for volunteer roles for all event committees.
  • Staff Development
    • Hold direct reports accountable to market and individual net productivity and profitability goals using reports and measurement tools.
    • Provide constructive feedback to improve staff performance consistently (at minimum quarterly, ideally weekly).
    • Write and deliver annual performance reviews in a timely manner aligned with HR standards.
    • Create a productive, professional, respectful, and culturally diverse work environment.
    • Establish and discuss individual performance and behavior goals aligned with organizational goals.
    • Monitor and discuss direct report revenue goal progress weekly, setting goals and holding staff accountable.
    • Implement growth strategies as needed.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
