Director, Dental Informatics & Analytics
About the role
The Director of Informatics & Analytics provides strategic, operational, and people leadership for the School of Dentistry's informatics function. This role leads a 48-person team supporting clinical, academic, and research missions through application stewardship, service management, analytics, and collaboration with central IT.
Responsibilities
- Translate school strategy into informatics roadmaps, OKRs, and execution plans.
- Represent Informatics on cross-functional committees spanning clinics, education, and research.
- Partner closely with central IT for infrastructure, security, integrations, and change planning and coordinate with them on hosting, backup/DR, identity & access, and cybersecurity.
- Directly supervise and develop informatics staff; establish standards and accountability.
- Mature ITSM practices; incident, problem, change, asset, project, and portfolio management.
- Establish operational documentation, knowledge management, and service metrics (SLAs, MTTR , CSAT).
- Implement AI/automation to improve service intake/triage, routing, self-service, knowledge search/summarization, and reporting.
- Pilot and scale AI solutions with measurable outcomes (efficiency, accuracy, satisfaction).
- Ensure AI usage aligns with compliance, security, and ethical standards; coordinate with IT and compliance.
- Own portfolio intake, prioritization, capacity planning, governance, and executive reporting.
- Serve as PM for select high-impact initiatives; manage risks, dependencies, and outcomes.
- Oversee functional aspects of axiUm, MiPACS, Dolphin, and related platforms; roadmap upgrades and integrations working closely with ITS and their responsibilities.
- Advance analytics capabilities; deliver dashboards and KPIs that inform clinical operations, student outcomes, and administration.
- Promote data governance and definitional consistency with stakeholders.
- Ensure HIPAA, FERPA, and research data compliance; maintain audit-ready documentation.
- Implement role-based access, change controls, and evidence of controls for audits.
- Act as a translator between leadership and technical teams; drive adoption and change readiness.
- Maintain transparent, audience-appropriate communications and status reporting.
Requirements
- A minimum of 6 total years of experience in the required disciplines with 5 years in Informatics/IT/Analytics roles.
- A minimum of 3 years directly supervising professional staff.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging AI or automation to improve informatics operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Healthcare Informatics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in Informatics, IT, or Analytics.
- Minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience.
- Experience in dental, medical, or academic healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with axiUm, MiPACS, Dolphin or similar systems.
- Experience leveraging AI in clinical, educational, or research use cases.
- Background in analytics/BI and process maturity.

Pay
Salary range: $120,000 - $150,000 annually.
