Job Summary
The Director, Data Science leads an analytics function or center of excellence and owns enterprise-wide clinical reporting strategy for a line of business or region. This role drives clinical and operational decisions through data and oversees key domains such as HEDIS, Stars, utilization management analytics, risk adjustment, and population health.
Responsibilities
- Lead a clinical analytics function or center of excellence
- Own enterprise-wide clinical reporting strategy for a line of business or region
- Drive decisions across clinical and operational areas through data and insight
- Drive vendor strategy, technology oversight, and cross-enterprise alignment on priorities
- Oversee major analytic domains of UM and CM analytics and population health
- Manage team structure, budget, operating model, and leadership communications
- Maintain workload, quality, and stakeholder satisfaction while improving team processes
- Deliver executive-level insight and presentations to population health leadership
- Parenthetically partner directly with senior clinical and executive stakeholders to frame analytical priorities and interpret results
- Own advanced analytics supporting Stars, risk adjustment, utilization management, or similar strategic areas
Requirements
Must be able to work in Eastern Time Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM EST to 5:00 PM EST
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in Biostatistics, Public Health, Health Analytics, Data Science, or related field
- Master's Degree preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of data science experience using mathematics, statistics, modeling, business analysis, and technology to transform high volumes of complex data into advanced analytic solutions
- Minimum of 5 years of experience leading a cross-functional, remote team
Skills
- Executive communication, multi-domain analytics ownership, budget management, regulatory depth, and ROI framing
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders without formal authority
- Skills in people management, project delivery, SQL/BI tools, and HEDIS/Stars functional knowledge
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and business translation skills
- Experience with cloud data environments, APIs, ETL/ELT pipelines, semantic models, and governed reporting layers
- Experience with Python and at least one scripting or ML-oriented toolchain
- Strong consultative problem-framing, cross-functional collaboration, and change management skills
- Comfort operating in ambiguity and shaping solutions across business, clinical, and technology teams
- Demonstrated success leading transformation across payer clinical analytics domains
- Ability to connect enterprise analytics decisions to financial, operational, and regulatory outcomes
- Strong problem-solving, project ownership, and stakeholder management
