About the role

Turner & Townsend are seeking an experienced Director of Cost Management to lead and develop a team of Cost Managers and deliver cost management services for a large-scale construction project. This role ensures service excellence in delivery, growth of our cost management offering, and client engagement. The successful candidate will be a driven leader with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a cost management team, ensuring they deliver on all accountabilities.
  • Oversee client communications and cost management team services.
  • Conduct research on construction market conditions, including analysis of official published data.
  • Produce thought leadership reports providing valuable insights to the construction market.
  • Strategically and operationally manage Cost Management Services across sectors, including resource planning, financial management, business generation, and training.
  • Set a clear strategy and ambition with the team in line with our Business Plan.
  • Grow and develop exceptional people, promoting a culture of learning, respect, and inclusivity.
  • Ensure knowledge management by inputting key information and learning from each commission into internal databases.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for internal systems.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and participation in ISO audits.
  • Develop priority plans, including risk mitigation, performance measurements via KPIs, and management controls.
  • Undertake internal BMS audits and coordinate external audits.
  • Act as a brand ambassador, developing a deep understanding of the market and creating opportunities with existing and new clients.
  • Identify and act on cross-selling opportunities.
  • Participate in meetings with senior leadership and prepare and deliver presentations.
  • Track ongoing revenue, margin levels, and monthly fees using internal software.
  • Prepare proposals and RFP responses for new clients/projects.
  • Attend networking events and other promotional opportunities.
  • Support training, mentorship, and career development of staff.
  • Partner with talent acquisition to attract top talent and proactively plan for future staffing needs.
  • Drive a "one business" culture that balances the needs of people, clients, stakeholders, and society.
  • Adhere to SOX control responsibilities where applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • Graduate degree in quantity surveying, cost management, construction management, or engineering is preferred.
  • 12+ years of relevant cost management or quantity surveying experience.
  • 2+ years managing high-performing cost management teams in a consulting environment.
  • Prior people management experience.
  • Proven track record of managing successful cost management service delivery for clients.
  • Exceptional business development acumen and ambition to drive growth.
  • Major construction sector experience with high-caliber clients in commercial real estate, data centers, life sciences, industrial manufacturing, natural resources, etc.
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, written, organizational, and communication skills.
