Director, Content Specialist

Temporary position reporting to Jasmine Landry, based in Philadelphia, PA.

About the role

Teach for America Greater Philadelphia aims to double third-grade reading proficiency in the communities we serve by 2032 and support Corps Members in becoming highly effective teachers. To advance this goal, TFA Philly is hiring Content Specialists to build Corps Member content knowledge in the Science of Reading or STEM for specific grade bands.

Content Specialists will prepare and facilitate in-person professional development sessions on the Science of Reading or STEM with groups of up to 25 first- and second-year Corps Members, providing follow-up support. Sessions will occur four times during the 2026-27 school year, plus an additional Meet & Greet session, typically in the evening. Each session includes exploring key concepts and guided application using high-quality curricular resources.

Responsibilities

• Complete 1-2 hours of training and rehearsal before each session
• Design 4 professional development sessions focused on grade-band-specific Science of Reading or STEM content, aligned with TFA Philly staff guidance
• Submit session materials to TFA Philly staff at least 2 weeks prior to session dates and incorporate feedback
• Facilitate in-person and virtual 90-minute content sessions as part of larger TFA Philly corps events:
  • Sept. 14, 2026 – virtual Meet & Greet (30-60 min)
  • Oct. 17, 2026 – in-person session (90 min)
  • November 2026 – virtual session, self-scheduled within a window (90 min)
  • January – virtual session, self-scheduled within a window (90 min)
  • March 13 – in-person session (90 min)
  • April 14 – in-person session (90 min)
• Spend up to 60 minutes debriefing each PD session
• Provide light follow-up support to Corps Members (e.g., answer questions via email, send follow-up resources)

Requirements

• Deep content knowledge and training in the Science of Reading (e.g., AIM Pathways, LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, Standards Institute) or STEM (e.g., OGAP, SDP Math Institute, Standards Institute)
• Expertise supporting secondary humanities teachers with literacy interventions
• At least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience with demonstrated student success
• Strong facilitation skills with adults
• Belief in the capacity for people to learn, grow, and change
• Commitment to ongoing learning and receptiveness to feedback
• Demonstrated success working across lines of difference
• Familiarity with high-quality curricular resources such as:
  • EL/Imagine Learning, Amplify Core Knowledge, Wilson Foundations, Heggerty
  • Eureka Math, Illustrative Mathematics

Pay

Compensation is $41.10 per hour, with an anticipated total of 30-40 hours over the 2026-27 school year.

Schedule

Role duration: August 17, 2026 – May 31, 2027. Sessions are held in the evening, with specific dates listed in Responsibilities.
