About the role

The Director, Consumer Lending is responsible for growing, managing, and controlling the Credit Union’s consumer loan portfolio, including the credit card portfolio, signature loan portfolio, second mortgage portfolio, and other consumer loan portfolios. This includes responsibility for corporate policies and procedures regarding consumer lending activities, ensuring long-term portfolio growth while maintaining appropriate credit quality and compliance with applicable laws.

This role oversees the management efforts of Consumer Lending Managers, Business Control Analysts, and Loan Review Analysts by setting performance standards and goals, preparing functional plans, budgets, and managing priority tactics to enhance loan portfolio performance, member satisfaction, and partner-employee work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of FCRA compliance and ensure assigned business units operate efficiently, reliably, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and rules, while maintaining appropriate controls to mitigate risk (30%).
  • Serve as the primary point person and subject matter expert for the Compliance, Legal, and Risk Management Departments, ensuring the Consumer Lending Department operates in compliance and mitigates inherent risks (20%).
  • Serve on lending committees, providing data, trending analysis, and recommendations for adjustments to the consumer lending program (20%).
  • Collaborate with senior lending management, including the CEO, Chief Lending Officer, and VP of Consumer Lending, to align with the credit union’s risk appetite and implement strategic initiatives to improve consumer lending offerings and member experience (15%).
  • Work closely with external auditors, regulatory agencies, third-party lending partnerships, and vendor oversight programs (10%).
  • Manage and underwrite difficult, complex loans and resolve issues beyond the ability of the management team (5%).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Management, or a related field (candidates with a non-business degree may qualify with considerable relevant experience).
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in consumer lending at a financial institution, preferably in a Credit Union Consumer Loan Department.
  • Minimum of five years of management or supervisory experience with proven leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, reason, problem-solve, and prioritize work independently.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to design recommendations to accomplish business and tactical goals.
  • All required NMLS, State, and Safe Act Licensing requirements for control purposes.
  • Director-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • NMLS certification is required.

Pay

Grade and Compensation Band: PG 21: $112,299.20 – $168,500.80 annually.

Target Compensation: $120,000.00 - $155,000.00.

Pay Classification: Exempt (Salary).
