Director, Business Transformation - Liberty Mutual Investments

About the Role

The Business Transformation team at Liberty Mutual Investments (LMI) serves as the operating model and process design capability, reporting to the Head of Business Transformation. This role acts as a strategic partner to senior leaders, designing operating models, governance structures, and business capabilities to execute LMI’s 2030 strategy. It bridges strategy and execution, focusing on operating model and process design while enabling near-term implementation and shaping long-term direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead Enterprise Design Engagements: Manage complex, cross-functional projects from discovery to implementation, aligning stakeholders and translating strategic objectives into operating models and measurable outcomes.
• Partner Across Strategy & Execution: Collaborate within GIS Strategy & Execution, leading standalone design engagements and serving as an embedded partner on Program Management-governed programs.
• Design Target Operating Models: Develop models defining processes, governance, decision rights, roles, and accountability across investment and operational functions.
• Drive Process and Business Architecture: Assess and mature business capabilities, identify gaps, and improve scalability and efficiency.
• Assess and Optimize Investment Operations: Evaluate end-to-end investment processes, identify challenges, and develop scalable solutions.
• Establish Governance and Performance Frameworks: Define governance structures, KPIs, and operating routines for sustainable execution and continuous improvement.
• Facilitate Executive Alignment: Lead workshops and stakeholder engagements to build alignment and accelerate decision-making.
• Advance AI-Enabled Ways of Working: Identify and scale AI-enabled tools to improve engagement delivery and analysis.
• Bring External Perspective and Industry Insight: Monitor trends and best practices to inform strategic recommendations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in asset management, investment operations, process design, operating model design, business architecture, or management consulting.
• 3+ years owning complex engagements end-to-end through structured methodologies.
• Direct experience in asset management, institutional investing, or investment operations.
• Deep understanding of institutional asset management and front-, middle-, and back-office operating models.
• Experience with public and private market investments (credit, structured products, alternatives, etc.).
• Proven success leading enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Experience designing operating models, governance structures, and large-scale process redesigns.
• Fluency with AI-enabled tools for synthesizing data and generating deliverables.
• Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and drive measurable results.

Preferred Experience

• Experience at a leading asset manager, insurance investment organization, or top-tier consulting firm.
• Expertise in business architecture, capability modeling, or enterprise methodologies.
• Experience with operating model modernization, data transformation, or organizational redesign.
• Familiarity with investment platforms (SimCorp, Aladdin, eFront, etc.).
• Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Strategy, or related field.

This role goes beyond strategy to design and implement how an entire investment organization operates, working across investment teams, operations, finance, product, data, and technology to solve complex challenges. The team operates from a codified methodology, ensuring rigorous and repeatable design work that directly influences LMI’s future scalability and performance.
