Accountabilities
The Director, Business Development will be responsible for accelerating revenue growth by developing new commercial opportunities, managing strategic relationships, and guiding prospects through complex sales processes. This role requires a strong business development mindset combined with technical fluency in advanced therapy platforms.
- Identify, prospect, and close new business opportunities across the Cell and Gene Therapy ecosystem, including biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical organizations, and emerging therapeutic developers.
- Build and execute territory plans focused on developing partnerships from early-stage opportunities through commercial collaborations.
- Generate new business through proactive outreach, lead qualification, relationship development, and conversion of prospects into long-term clients.
- Communicate technical capabilities across viral vector manufacturing, mRNA production, and cell and gene therapy platforms with support from scientific subject matter experts.
- Establish trusted relationships with key stakeholders across research and development, CMC, process development, manufacturing, and executive leadership teams.
- Manage the complete sales cycle, including opportunity identification, discovery meetings, proposal development, negotiation, and contract execution.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, pipeline visibility, sales forecasts, and performance reporting.
- Collaborate with marketing, technical teams, and program management functions to support successful client onboarding and ongoing partnerships.
- Provide market insights and customer feedback to support commercial strategy and organizational growth.
- Consistently achieve or exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is a strategic and results-oriented business development professional with experience selling complex scientific or technical solutions within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry. They should combine strong commercial instincts with the ability to engage both scientific and executive audiences.
- 5+ years of successful B2B sales or business development experience, including at least 2 years selling within the Cell and Gene Therapy or CDMO industry.
- Strong understanding of viral vectors, mRNA technologies, and/or cell and gene therapy platforms, with deep expertise in at least one modality.
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline required; advanced degrees such as a Master's or PhD are preferred.
- Prior laboratory experience or scientific research background is highly valued.
- Proven track record of consistently achieving or exceeding sales quotas.
- Demonstrated ability to build new accounts, develop strategic relationships, and operate independently with limited oversight.
- Experience managing technical, multi-stakeholder sales cycles involving complex decision-making processes.
- Strong communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear business value propositions for diverse audiences.
- Highly motivated, strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and organizational abilities.
- Candidates located in the Northeast region are preferred, though other locations may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
