About the role

The Director, Business Development will lead the sales efforts for ROHL Global Networks' fiber optic construction and dark fiber IRU opportunities in the U.S. and Canada. Based in the U.S., the role will focus on developing and winning fiber optic construction opportunities, selling turnkey site, space, and power solutions in Canada, and pursuing renewable energy project construction opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Originate, negotiate, and close dark fiber IRU, conduit, and Layer 2 services agreements on our Alberta, Canada network with U.S. and international customers
  • Develop and win fiber optic construction opportunities in both the U.S. and Canadian markets, including long-haul fiber builds serving the data center and edge compute verticals across the Lower 48 and Alaska
  • Pursue renewable energy project construction opportunities in the Lower 48, leveraging our active U.S. energy construction operations
  • Sell turnkey site, space, and power solutions in Canada for edge compute and data center deployments, coordinating our fiber, energy, and construction capabilities into a unified offer
  • Qualify and develop opportunities for U.S. data center operators evaluating Alberta for future capacity
  • Represent the company at key industry events, including pre-booked meeting programs
  • Build and maintain a disciplined pipeline and forecast in CRM; provide market intelligence on pricing, competitive routes, and demand trends
  • Work closely with our Alberta-based engineering, construction, and executive teams on solution design, route feasibility, and proposal development
  • Support contract negotiation through execution, working with legal counsel on IRU, FRA, construction, and services agreements

Requirements

  • 8+ years of business development or sales experience in dark fiber, wholesale connectivity, data center development, or digital infrastructure construction, with a verifiable record of closed transactions
  • Existing, active relationships with hyperscaler network sourcing teams, data center operators, and/or carrier wholesale buyers
  • Fluency in route economics, IRU deal structures, conduit and construction fundamentals, and the data center site-selection process
  • Working knowledge of data center power, site development, and edge compute requirements — enough to credibly scope a turnkey opportunity
  • Demonstrated ability to run long sales cycles (12–24 months) independently from a home office as part of a small, entrepreneurial team
  • Strong negotiation and written communication skills; comfort presenting to C-level and procurement audiences
  • Willingness to travel throughout the U.S. and to Alberta, Canada
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship

Qualifications

  • Nice to have: experience with cross-border (U.S.– Canada) network routes or transactions, familiarity with power markets, energy infrastructure, or the intersection of generation and data center development, existing knowledge of the Western Canadian or Pacific Northwest connectivity landscape, experience at a dark fiber operator (e.g., Zayo, Lumen, Crown Castle Fiber, or similar), a data center developer, or a hyperscaler network team

  • Conduit and construction fundamentals
  • Data center site selection
  • Data center power, site development, and edge compute requirements

Benefits

  • Direct access to ownership; decisions in days, not quarters
  • A rare mandate spanning fiber, construction, and turnkey power — multiple ways to win with every customer
  • A defensible position in a market with a structural advantage: Alberta has the power U.S. markets are running out of
  • Credible mandate to win with every customer
  • Uncapped commission on high-value infrastructure transactions
