DIRECTOR/ASSESSMENT & EVALUATION
About the role
This position is responsible for leading The Center for Charter School's functions associated with the analysis and use of data, evaluation of the performance of authorized schools, and oversight of school assessment practices.
The Director of Assessment & Evaluation (DAE) ensures that relevant staff have the information they need to make decisions regarding academic school performance and contractual performance. The DAE works with other Center staff in providing ongoing assessment of the Center’s academic accountability metrics and makes recommendations for changes as necessary.
The DAE also ensures the Center’s partner schools are utilizing the most current practices in academic assessment. The DAE is responsible for ensuring the Center is well positioned to advance its efforts by using data to inform authorizing practices, advance policy and to target resources effectively. The DAE also has oversight responsibility for contractual assessment practices of all partner schools.
The DAE also is responsible for training Center staff in the communication, implementation, and interpretation of assessment best practices and accountability standards to ensure valid and reliable results are collected on academic assessments used for informative and evaluative purposes.
Responsibilities
- Conducts analyses, interprets data, and prepares content for related reports.
- Provides data analysis support for The Center for Charter Schools, including reports, ad hoc studies, and requests for information.
- Ensures authorized schools remain in compliance with assessment related requirements and takes appropriate action when schools are out of compliance.
- Communicates the results of the Center’s assessment of school performance with a variety of stakeholders, including school leaders, board members and others using a variety of methods.
- Performs technical tasks and provides technical support with particular emphasis on interpretation, reporting, aggregation and evaluation of data sets.
- Plans and carries out projects to clarify and respond to the Center’s schools, the state and regional educational needs.
- Analyzes state and local data sets to assess and evaluate school performance.
- Provides updates and guidance to Center staff and partner schools regarding changes in assessment practices.
- Collaborates with authorized schools when necessary to establish new or alternative performance goals.
- Ensures that academic assessment training is provided to Center staff and partner schools.
- Builds relationships with potential collaborators and partners to inform studies and dissemination strategies.
- Creates and improves conceptual frameworks for use in evaluating school performance.
- Helps develop and disseminate strategies and present results.
- Affords oversight of policy and program initiatives of the Center and the university.
- Affords assistance with the management of contractors and external entities.
- Advises leadership and makes recommendations on key issues as needed specific to school evaluation.
- Affords assistance with the evaluation of application for new charter schools.
- Represents the university and the Center at state and national levels.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education or related field.
- Deep understanding of K-12 educational assessment and accountability practices.
- Three years of increasingly responsible work experience of a qualifying nature.
- Expertise in quantitative and qualitative analyses.
- Understanding of public charter schools, the role of a charter school authorizer, and the role of governing boards.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience presenting information and engaging audiences in ways that help members apply the knowledge they are receiving.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work across multiple projects and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to provide and accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to oversee policy and program initiatives of the Center and the university.
